Most pop-up adverts are linked to download pages where the audience can download music, images, and others; these websites are most often illegal. Clicking on one pop-up ad might lead automatically to other pop-up ads opening. In addition clocking on pop-up ads might download viruses on user’s computer.

Types of pop-up adverts: Pop-up adverts might look like an ordinary webpage or show up on the side as a separate box on the webpage.

• Irrelevant pop-up spam:For instance “You just won £1 billion!” As pop-up blockers started to appear they started to extinct as well.

• Irrelevant pop-up ads:They have nothing to with the content of the page the user is using and they try to sell a something. Even though there are loads of them online, they arenot popular because they are known for being pirated. Therefore they don’t get many clicks.

For instance the reader is visiting an online recipe webpage, then an ad will suggest to buy the new cooking book of a chef or tobuy certain gadgets for the kitchen.

Therefore these pop-ups don’t appear to so aggressive as those that vigorously shout at the visitor as soon as she/he opens the webpage. • Behavior-Driven Pop-ups:They only appear after the user appears to be interested in the subject for instance by clicking on the third page or by scrolling down to 66% on a website.• Exit Pop-ups: Once the visitors starts to click on other websites this pop-up comes up to extend for instance a special offer to entice visitors before they are gone.

Approximately 70% of the population gets annoyed by pop-up adverts; the fact they are the number one reason why people block a website supports this. On the other hand a subscription rate can two-fold with the help of pop-ups adverts. For example with the help of pop-up advertising, www.entrepreneur.com increased their sales by 162% and subscriptions by 86%.

In conclusion if pop-ups are targeting the right audience, in the right time and with the right design; they can be a very useful marketing tool.
