cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” MT 17: 2-3, 5

HOW TO REACH US
It is still early Lent and Easter can seem so far away, especially if you’ve taken on a challenging or meaningful penance this year. Hang on! Easter will come before you know it and you will be able to rejoice in what you have accomplished for the Lord. It can be tempting to give up on your Lenten practices, particularly if you haven’t been able to stick with them 100% this early in the season. The important thing about our Lenten promises is to remember that you can pick up where you left off and get back on the path. Of course, we all want to succeed and even our Lord desires that we fulfill them. We are human and prone to fail, but that doesn’t mean we have to give up. In the beautiful prayer of the Stations of the Cross, our Blessed Lord falls three times while carrying the cross, and each time He gets up and continues on His path. Realistically, He probably fell more than three times, but we recall three of those falls. In any case, our Blessed Lord fell for us. He fell to further share the totality of our human nature, which includes falling. However, unlike us, our Lord fell only physically, whereas we can fall not only in the physical sense, but also morally and sinfully. In His falls on the road to Calvary, our Lord demonstrates to us that we must get up and continue on our way. If you have fallen in your Lenten practices, get up and keep going. Our Lord set the example for us so we can faithfully and confidently follow Him. In the end, it is the Lord, in His grace, who will make us successful. Allow Him to bless your efforts and if you’ve fallen, get up and keep going.
In Jesus and Mary, Fr. Flores

STEWARDSHIP
March 8, 2020
2nd Sunday of Lent
“Go forth from the land of your kinsfolk and from your father’s house to a land that I will show you.” GEN 12:1
God calls all of us to leave behind our old ways and to follow
Him, placing our complete trust in Him. Some of the old ways
that we may have to struggle to leave behind might be materi-
alism, selfishness and greed. Yet God promises to show us a
new land and a better way to live. Remember what St. Teresa
of Calcutta said, “God does not call us to be successful, God
calls us to be faithful.”
The 2020 Idaho
Catholic Appeal
Please accept our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all
who have made their generous commitment to this year’s
Idaho Catholic Appeal. Catholics throughout our diocese
are uniting in faith, sharing their blessings, and giving gifts
in Jesus’ name. The Idaho Catholic Appeal provides sup-
port for our seminarians and priests. We see the fruits of
the Appeal in our parish through trained catechists,
deacons, and lay ministers and resources for our parish
staff and ministers provided by the diocese. The Catech-
esis Office, which forms and supports parish catechetical
leaders who serve thousands of children and adolescents
each year in parish religious education programs, is sup-
ported through the Idaho Catholic Appeal. Remember that
no gift is too small. For those who have not yet responded,
we urge you to consider offering your commitment at this
time here at the church, by filling out a pledge envelope
located in the pew and dropping it in the collection basket.
Please remember that you can fulfill your pledge over
several months and pay by credit card, automatic debit,
cash, money orders, or checks. The Diocese also accepts
gifts online at www.catholicidaho.org.
With every parishioner’s meaningful participation, we
will succeed in reaching our goal of $117,569.00.
March 1 $23,132.26* Total $23,132.26 *Includes Ash Wednesday Collection

SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DePAUL
Sometimes You Just Need a Little Help
I spoke with a long-time resident a few days ago, who we will call “Samantha”. Samantha and her husband have reached the point in life where they are only a few years away from retirement. Their children are grown and on their own. Samantha’s husband is in construction and is busy during the summer months. They enjoy hunting in the fall and fishing in the spring – that is until a few months ago, when due to unforeseen circumstances, they have care of their three grandchildren, ranging in age from 2 to 10 years old.
Samantha and her husband had to make adjustments to get the children situated that set them back a bit financially. They needed help with their power bill to keep their service from being shut off. Samantha loves having her grandchildren with them and felt embarrassed about asking for help. With a little chuckle she said, “After all, we thought we would be planning the next bass fishing trip.”
Fortunately, summer work will start a little early for Saman-tha’s husband. With the help of your Pope St. Pius X St. Vincent de Paul, they were able to reset their budget and get over this bump in the road.

ARE YOU CALLED TO BE AN
EXTRAORDINARY MINISTER
OF HOLY COMMUNION? Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) are
lay people commissioned to assist with distribution of the
Body and Blood of Christ at Mass. (We have separate
guidelines for those bringing Communion to the sick or
imprisoned). This ministry is an honor and privilege. As
one accepts this role, he/she has prayerfully discerned that
God is asking this service of them. EMHCs must be active,
fully-initiated, practicing Catholics, at least 18 years of age,
with no impediments. If you feel so called, please fill out
the form at the liturgical ministries bulletin board or call the
parish office, and you will be contacted for training.

PRETZELS AFTER MASS DURING LENT: Keeping with tradition, there will be pretzels, rather than doughnuts, after most Masses during Lent. Did you know it is no accident that pretzels are shaped in the form of arms crossed in prayer?
Pretzels were a common Lenten food throughout the Middle Ages and were purposefully shaped in this special way.

Reaching Your Child’s Heart
Mothers today are overwhelmed with ex-
pectations. Guilt abounds. We listen to our
culture and take on those expectations.
But we’re also aware that our children aren’t really our own—
that they belong to God. Please join us as we discuss how we
can reach our children’s hearts in the way that God intends, and
with the truths He values, to mother in a way that has lasting
value. No experience is necessary, just come as you are for
some coffee and a chance to see what Walking with Purpose is
all about!
