September 2017 As we approach fall and the close of our 2017 driving season, I wanted to reflect on all the fun we’ve had this year. We’ve tried to more than double the number of events we’ve held this year. The thought was that having more events would give you more opportunities to fit the PCA into your busy lives. Overall, based on multiple comments I’ve received, I think that it worked! We are timing two drives to occur during the height of fall color. Personally, autumn is my favorite season and what better way to take in the fall scenery than by exploring our beautiful neck of the woods in our beautiful Porsches? I truly hope you can join us for at least one of them. Epic Drive - Elk Scenery and Kinzua Bridge - 9/30/17 (10/1 Rain Date)

With fall approaching, we thought it would be pretty awesome to plan a truly ambitious drive, one

which reels in some of the best of central Pennsylvania in the fall. The first leg of the trip follows the Elk

Scenic Drive, starting at Sheetz in Milesburg and heading to the Elk County Visitor Center in Benezette via

Moshannon and Renovo. We will have lunch in Benezette. People who wish to head home can do so now, but

the truly adventurous will be continuing north to the Kinzua Bridge State Park near Mount Jewitt. After taking

in the scenery, we’ll continue to Coudersport on Rt. 6 and then wind down via Rt. 44 through the

Susquehannock State Forest to The Black Forest Inn for dinner. After dinner, we’ll head home separately.

We are planning for Saturday 9/30 (yes we’re aware there is a PSU game) with a rain date of Sunday

10/1. This is an hugely ambitious single day drive… the full loop is over 280 miles (6+ hours of driving)

spread out over a full day. For this to be successful, we’ll have to keep a tight schedule and be fully prepared.

Please make sure to start the day with a full tank, a full stomach, and an empty bladder! (Luckily, Sheetz can

accommodate all those things!). Detailed maps/directions will be provided. Please RSVP via email to

[email protected] by 9/27 (accepts only, please). Watch your email for updated info!

20th Anniversary Party Recap

On Saturday August 12, we celebrated our 20th anniversary at Ridge Soaring Gliderport in Julian, PA. We had more than 35 people join us for great food, great cars, and great company. Some highlights included delicious BBQ, Porsche cupcakes, airplane rides courtesy of Randy Kilmer, our memorabilia table, and checking out Dan Crust’s practically new Boxster. The club recognized the charter members who were in attendance, including: Karon Swendrowski, Fred and Judy Sears, Don Leitzell, Mike Szczesny, and Ed Tracey. Jacque Ryder’s highlight was an adorable puppy who was named Porsche (or Portia) during the party, a fitting name given the importance of the occasion! Many thanks to all who helped in making this event possible and for all who joined us in celebrating our 20th anniversary!

10/8 - Fall Foliage Drive Come join us for a driving tour which captures the best of fall foliage in Pennsylvania!

We will meet at the Walmart parking lot in Williamsport at 9:30am and leave by 10:00am. Jim Stuck will lead the drive up to Laporte, where we’ll meet up officially at B & B Brew Pub around 11-ish for coffee and donuts in their banquet room. If you want anything else, you can order it from the menu (they have good food!).

We’ll leave D & D Brew Pub around 11:30 and drive North, then East to the French Azilum. This is about an hour's drive, but beautiful. Entrance to the French Azilum is free. They do give a tour of the La Porte house every hour on the hour, which is $3.00/pp for groups of 8 or more. The French Azilum has graciously permitted us to use the covered picnic area for lunch. So we get to pack our own picnic lunches. Isn't that cool? (Note: Pack your own lunch!)

After the French Azilum, we’ll continue for a half-hour drive up to the other side of the river for an "Overlook" view of that area (which is absolutely beautiful) and has some wonderful, winding, fabulous roads. Remember, this event is scheduled for the height of fall color, so you’d be remiss to skip this!

If you’re game for more adventure, we have a couple of options. (1) The Artists" Open House Weekend in Montrose, which is open until 6 (http://www.artiststour.com/) and (2) the Canton Apple n’ Cheese festival in Canton, PA (http://www.paapplecheese.com) which has a $7 admission fee. The Canton option is only available in dry conditions.

Please RSVP to Carol Durrwachter at [email protected] and don’t forget to pack a lunch!

11/3 - November Dinner and Tropical FishJoin us for our November informal dinner as we shine the spotlight on one our member’s non-car hobbies… tropical fish! Did you know that, in addition to owning a Porsche, Sanjay Joshi is a world-renowned tropical fish expert? It’s true! He is flown all over the world to give talks on tropical fish and now you can join him, his wife Elena, and their dog Sammy at their home to learn more than you ever dreamed about tropical fish (not to mention getting to behold his 500 gallon saltwater tank complete with living coral!) After the talk, everyone will go to dinner locally in State College.

Event Details● Where: Joshi Residence in Port Matilda (Gray’s Woods) - address will be provided to those who RSVP● When: 11/3/17 at 6pm● RSVP by 10/30 to Sanjay Joshi ([email protected])

Spikes Games Recap

Keystone PCA invaded the State College Spikes for games on August 9th and 23rd. Both evenings had lovely weather and were a lot of fun, even though attendance was limited. Many thanks for Cherish Crust (who worked for the Spikes this summer) for organizing these events!
