Luis Nadal lleva más de treinta años en el sector náutico. Su tra-yectoria profesional comenzó en un pequeño puerto deportivo, ElToro, lo que hoy en día es Port Adriano. De ahí, se trasladó a unamarina nueva, con mayor número de amarres, para mejorar su ex-periencia durante cuatro años. Su siguiente parada fue en Sa Ràpita,en el Club Náutico, para volver al cabo de los dos años al sitio quele había visto empezar su andadura profesional: Port Adriano.

En sus años de experiencia ¿Cómo ha visto evolucionar PortAdriano? ¿Y respecto al sector náutico de nuestro país?Hemos pasado de ser un puerto deportivo con barcos pequeños,muchos de ellos de pescadores, a una marina internacional. La am-pliación que realizamos en 2012, de manos de Philippe Starck, nosayudó a generar un mayor conocimiento del puerto y a ser un re-clamo de visita. Respecto al resto de puertos nacionales e incluso del Mediterráneo,nos diferencia que somos de las pocas marinas con capacidad dealbergar un gran número de yates de gran eslora.

En ocasiones puede parecer que la marinería de puertoquede olvidada. En su opinión, ¿cuáles son las cualida-des que debe tener un marinero de puerto? ¿Y las de con-tramaestre?El servicio de marinería tiene que contar con personas cualifi-cadas para asumir las particularidades que tiene este tipo deembarcaciones grandes. El equipo tiene que estar integrado portrabajadores resolutivos, capaces de estar al servicio de perso-nas de diferentes nacionalidades, y con diferentes exigencias.El contramaestre tiene, lo primero, que ser capaz de gestionarlos equipos de marinería y coordinar las necesidades del día adía del puerto. Además, tiene que ser capaz de prever situacio-nes que, en ocasiones surgen de imprevisto, y que requieren deuna solución rápida.

Port Adriano cuenta con casi 500 amarres, muchos de ellospara superyates. Nos gustaría que nos explicara las carac-terísticas específicas en el momento en que las grandes es-loras llegan a puerto.Con la llegada de los grandes barcos, inicialmente el capitán delbarco contacta con la marina y con su contramaestre. Es en ese mo-mento cuando el contramaestre da indicaciones a los marineros so-

bre lo que tienen que hacer. Estas tareas suelen ser: 1) indicar a tra-vés de radio cuál va a ser el amarre para el barco, 2) avisar al capi-tán de si tiene o no embarcaciones a babor y a estribor, 3) los ma-rineros de proa, suministran las amarras de proa con una embar-cación de apoyo para facilitar la maniobra del barco, 4) finalmente,los marineros de popa, suministran las amarras de popa a la tripu-lación del barco. Después, en actitud de servicio, el contramaestrese presenta en popa para dar la bienvenida al capitán y a partir deahí el equipo de mantenimiento se encarga de facilitar a la embar-cación los suministros y resto de servicios del puerto.

Además de los servicios propios de la marinería y avi-tuallamiento, uno de los más demandados es el de va-radero. Háblenos del mismo.La presencia de un varadero en el puerto es fundamental parasolventar cualquier tipo de problema o reparación que puedanecesitar una embarcación. Se encargan desde la varada y bo-tadura del barco para cualquier tipo de reparación, hasta su lim-pieza y pintura.

¿Qué cree que esperan los patrones de los barcos que lle-gan a Port Adriano por primera vez? ¿Podemos hablar deun perfil específico del navegante que llega a este puerto? El tipo de navegante es variado. El factor común entre ellos, es queesperan un servicio impecable en el puerto, ya que Port Adrianoes reconocido por su buen trato al cliente. Este servicio no solo esde marinería, sino también de oficina, mantenimiento, y resto dedepartamentos que trabajan en la marina.

Luis Nadal has worked in the marine sector formore than thirty years. His professional careerbegun in a small tourist port, El Toro, that is to-day's Port Adriano. From there, for four years,he worked at a larger marina to improve hisknow-how. He then went to Sa Ràpita, to workat Club Náutico, where he spent two years, af-ter which he went back to where his profes-sional career started: Port Adriano.

How has Port Adriano changed over the years?And compared to the Spanish marine sector?We have gone from being a tourist port withsmall vessels, many of which fishermen's boats,

to an internationally renowned marina. The re-newal works carried out by Philippe Starck in2012 helped us gain visibility as a marina andattract visitors. Compared to other Spanish and, in general,Mediterranean ports, Port Adriano is amongstthe few marinas that can accommodate a largenumber of super yachts.

On occasion the marina's staff is not dulyappreciated. In your opinion, which qual-ities must a port staff member have? Anda commodore?Port’s staff must be highly qualified to satisfy

the needs of superyachts. Staff mem-bers must be effec-tive, capable of wor -king with people ofdifferent nationali-ties and with diffe-rent needs.To begin with, thecommodore mustbe able to manage

port staff members and coordinate the marina'sdaily needs. Additionally, he must be capableof anticipating unexpected situations that re-quire quick solutions.

Port Adriano has almost 500 berths, many ofwhich are for superyachts. We would like foryou to explain the process followed by superyachts once they arrive at the marina.When a superyacht arrives at the marina the cap-tain gets in contact with the head office and thecommodore. That is when the commodore tellsport staff members what to do. Usually this isthe procedure: 1) let the yacht know by radio theberth number, 2) let the captain know whetherthere are boats moored to port or starboard, 3)port staff members, on an auxiliary boat, pro-vide forward mooring ropes to ease manoeu-vring, 4) lastly, port staff members provide aftmooring ropes to the yacht's crew members.Afterwards, with a service-oriented attitude, thecommodore goes to the yacht to welcome thecaptain and, from there, the maintenance teamsupplies the yacht with all the services offeredby the marina.

Una marina es como una ciudad en la que conviven náu-tica, comercio, restauración. ¿Cómo es la convivencia, nor-mativa en el lugar? Las marinas tienen un reglamento de explotación y policía que in-cluyen las normas de la instalación. Es importante que todos losclientes conozcan estas normas a su llegada al puerto. El equipo demarinería y la dirección se ocupa de velar por el cumplimiento entodo momento.

En su opinión, ¿Qué es lo más notable dePort Adriano? ¿Qué le gustaría destacar?Tenemos un equipo profesional muy bien for-mado. El personal de marinería es muy aten-to con los clientes, y ellos recalcan habitual-mente su satisfacción por este motivo, llegandoa sorprenderles el nivel de servicio recibido ennuestro puerto en comparación con otros quehan visitado.

La sostenibilidad es un aspecto primordial de la gestión deun puerto. ¿Qué acciones lleváis a cabo?Nos preocupa mucho el medioambiente; además de ser el entornoen el que vivimos, somos plenamente conscientes de que los clien-tes quieren tener su embarcación en nuestro puerto gracias al ma-ravilloso entorno que tenemos. Tenemos certificación ISO 140001y EMAS. Esto nos exige cumplir con toda la normativa medio am-

biental, incluyendo laformación del equipode marinería y la con-cienciación de los u-sua rios del puerto.

In addition to traditional marina and pro-visioning services, one of the most de-manded services is a dry dock. Could youtell us about that?The presence of a dry dock in the marina is fun-damental to solve any sort of problem or repairwork that might arise. At the dry dock, they takecare of the hauling and launching of the yacht tocarry out all sorts of repair or maintenance works,such as cleaning and painting.

What do you think boat owners expect whenthey arrive in Port Adriano? Do all yachts-men who moor their yachts at the marinahave a common profile? Not at all, they are all very different. However, asPort Adriano is renowned for its superb customerservice, the common denominator amongst all vis-itors is that they all expect a flawless service. And

that is from all the marina's departments, includ-ing administration, maintenance and the rest.

A marina is like a city that combines boating,shopping and restaurants. Regulation wise,how does the marina work? Marinas have security and operating regulationsthat include the facilities' rules. It is important forall clients to be aware of such rules when they vis-it the marina. Port’s staff members and the head-office are in charge of making sure that such rulesare followed.

In your opinion, what is Port Adriano's mostoutstanding feature? We have a remarkably well-trained team of pro-fessionals working at the marina. Staff members areextremely helpful, and clients often emphasize theirsatisfaction for this reason, they are often surprised

by the excellent service they receive at our marinacompared with other ports they have stayed at.

Sustainability is an essential element of a ma-rina's management. What do you do at PortAdriano in this respect?We are highly concerned with the environmentand well aware of the fact that one of the reasonswhy our customers choose Port Adriano to moortheir yachts is the mesmerizing surroundings.
