PORT ARTHUR HISTORIC SITE

SOME STORIES LASTMORE THAN A LIFETIME

As the shadows grow longer on a night-time walk at Port Arthur, you never know who will

come to the light of the lantern.

Hear spine-tingling stories of strange events going back to convict days, as you experience

the atmosphere of the site at night. Who knows what the flame may reveal?

‘In the bathroom I experienced a presence. I felt it was a little girl and I felt her hand on the side of my face. As she caressed my face she said she was happy that I was here. I have never had such a warm and loving feeling.’Olive, New South Wales, 11 April 2003

‘I was taking a picture and my girlfriend said hurry up that little girl is waiting to walk past us. I looked to my left and saw a girl waiting by the railing .... she didn’t say anything just waited. She was dirty. We looked back to the photo subject. When the photo was finished the little girl was gone - she had never walked past us.’Amar, New South Wales, 1 January 2003

‘I didn’t see a physical solid form or talk to it or touch it in any way, but I sensed, I knew. The emotions were very strong. I could hear the little girl as I walked up the path to the Commandant’s house.’Jane, Victoria, 12 October 2003

‘Little girl about 7-8 years old, blond hair, longish, long white nightie or dress, she was running along the inside of the fence?’Claire, Tasmania, 15 April 1997

SHE’S WAITING FOR YOU

A lantern light tour moves through the Hospital. Photo Nathan Richter.

Darkness falls and another side of Port Arthur emerges. It's a different place after sunset, full of mystery and intrigue.

Vivid stories challenge your grasp of what happens when the past collides with the present. Truth or myth? You decide. Either way, in the glow of soft lights and the silence of night, those long gone feel close at hand.

AFTER DARK, A HIDDEN SIDE IS REVEALED
