Overview

• The Port of Saldanha was constructed during the early 1970’s and commissioned for operations in 1976

• Initially the Port’s primary aim was to export iron-ore

• Port of Saldanha is the deepest natural port in Southern Africa and can accommodate vessels with a draft of

up to 21.5 meters at the Iron Ore Terminal

• Since its inception the port has expanded to include a Liquid bulk Terminal, Multi-Purpose Terminal, Multi-Buoy

Mooring gas terminal and Offshore Supply Base

• Aqua-culture is also accommodated in the water area by means of commercial leases

• The liquid bulk and dry bulk terminals are situated at the end of a man-made causeway and can

accommodate VLCC class and Cape size vessels, respectively

• TNPA operates as a landlord authority and falls under the DPE and is regulated by the Ports Regulator.

• Terminals are managed by terminal operators, who determine the cargo handling methods and provide cargo

handling equipment
