Ghostly Happenings in Port
Wakefield for Spirited SA
Spirited SA Tours & Events Director Sharon Rayner and Darren Bacchus, Director Paranormal Investigator spent some night hours recently investigating in the Courthouse Museum, SM Hall and Former Council Chamber/Newsletter Building. Special cameras and recording devices were used to ascertain if any paranormal activity was present. Amazingly some activity was detected. Sharon and Darren will be back again soon to carry out further investigations with the view of organising Ghost Tours and or Lock In events in the future. The Port Wakefield Community Management Committee welcomed the investigation and
proposed Ghost Tours or Lock In events in the future with the view of promoting Port Wakefield Township and business.

River Gum Information Centre Removed
The River Gum Information Centre, located on Highway One Port Wakefield, was removed last week. Last year Wakefield Regional Council (WRC) offered the use and running of the information centre to the Port Wakefield Community Management Committee. The committee, already leasing and maintaining several old buildings in Port Wakefield, felt it was unable to take on the task alone without support from other sources. Requests for assistance from business, organisations or individuals were placed in the Port Wakefield Community Newsletter, The Plains Producer and letters sent to every town management committee in the Wakefield Regional Council District to circulate to their local businesses and organisations. Sadly not one response was received and WRC requested River Gum remove their building.
Birds of the Port Wakefield Area
from a book of the same name by Paul Taylor and Wikipedia Jacky Winter Microeca fascinans
Fairly common in mallee scrubs and venturing into agricultural land. A confiding bird that can be approached closely, even when nesting. The Jacky Winter was formerly and formally called the Brown Flycatcher. It is easily recognised by its prominent white outer tail feathers. The Jacky Winter is a small grey-brown robin found commonly throughout Australia and also in Papua New Guinea. The Jacky Winter acquired its name due to rapid and strong vocalisations which sound like jacky-jacky winter-winter. Their call is also often referred to as sounding like peter-peter-peter.
