River Gum Information Centre Removed

The River Gum Information Centre, located on Highway One Port Wakefield, was removed last week. Last year Wakefield Regional Council (WRC) offered the use and running of the information centre to the Port Wakefield Community Management Committee. The committee, already leasing and maintaining several old buildings in Port Wakefield, felt it was unable to take on the task alone without support from other sources. Requests for assistance from business, organisations or individuals were placed in the Port Wakefield Community Newsletter, The Plains Producer and letters sent to every town management committee in the Wakefield Regional Council District to circulate to their local businesses and organisations. Sadly not one response was received and WRC requested River Gum remove their building.

Birds of the Port Wakefield Area

from a book of the same name by Paul Taylor and Wikipedia Jacky Winter Microeca fascinans

Fairly common in mallee scrubs and venturing into agricultural land. A confiding bird that can be approached closely, even when nesting. The Jacky Winter was formerly and formally called the Brown Flycatcher. It is easily recognised by its prominent white outer tail feathers. The Jacky Winter is a small grey-brown robin found commonly throughout Australia and also in Papua New Guinea. The Jacky Winter acquired its name due to rapid and strong vocalisations which sound like jacky-jacky winter-winter. Their call is also often referred to as sounding like peter-peter-peter.

Did you know..

Howard Hughes kept a ruler in his hotel room to measure any peas he ordered, sending back those that were “too big.”

Dustin Hoffman suggested the title of Tootsie for the hit film; Tootsie was the name of his mother’s dog.

Only one pirate is known to have buried

kilo of bricks?

Q2: How many months have 28 days?

Q3: Name four days of the week that start with

the letter “t”?

Q4: What goes around and around the wood but

never goes into the wood?
