Preparation for REPCO Around
Australia Rally.
Local racing identity John Kipling is completely re building a 1978 Holden HZ Ute in preparation for the re run of the 1979 REPCO Around Australia Rally in 2019.
In 1979 John drove a 1975 Holden HJ Ute but unfortunately due to mechanical problems was unable to finish the Rally, breaking down about three hundred miles from the finish line. The 2019 Rally start will also recognise those drivers who drove in 1979 and are driving in the re run, by naming them the “Originals”. The “Originals” will start at the front of the rally after driving through a guard of honour. At this stage John is the only “Original” driver to have registered. John’s co-driver will be his wife Anne who is looking forward to the event.
PLEASE NOTE
Friday 16thJune there will be no doctor in
attendance in Pt Wakefield.
Photo shows John working on the vehicle in his shed.

Walk With Wings is dedicated to providing
awareness and support to families that are facing
the arrival of a premature loved one and families
grieving the loss of a child. Some of the services
we provide to families include free 3D hand and
feet castings of babies born at 16 weeks gestation
up to 18 years of age and for any child who has
passed away. We also support parents and their
premature babies through free financial support
while in hospital, free hire of Angelcare Sound and
Movement Monitors once out of hospital and
continued emotional support.
The walk will be held on the 1st July, from
12:01am to 6pm
Starting at Paralowie and ending at Port
Wakefield.
The walk is not for the faint of heart and there are
options to walk 20, 40 or the full 80km distance,
but after pushing through pain and tiredness there
is both relief and appreciation from every walker
who can go the distance.
Registration is free

2017-walk.
Please visit our

Population growth high on agenda for
Wakefield
The next five years will be action-packed for the Wakefield region according to the new draft Strategic Management Plan.
Private capital expenditure is expected to double or even triple over the next 5 years compared with the $100 plus million invested in the past 5 years. Wakefield Regional Council plans to do what it can to ensure as much of that growth occurs and to capitalize on that for the benefit of the community. Council's new Strategic Plan is built on 4 key objectives including economic development, quality infrastructure, meeting community expectations and for the first time population growth.
"Councillors identified early on that focusing on economic development was not enough, as job creation was not translating to people choosing to live within our region" said Mr Jason Kuchel, CEO of Wakefield Regional Council. "For this reason, Council has established population growth as a key pillar of the new Strategic Plan with a number of actions to remove the inhibitors that stop people moving into the area, including access to childcare and availability of lifestyle properties." Following extensive workshops and deliberation, the draft Strategic Management Plan for 2017-2022 has been developed and is ready for community feedback. Council is inviting any interested community or business groups to meet with the Mayor, CEO or senior staff if they wish to gain more insight into the plan. To submit your feedback on the draft Strategic Management Plan, visit Council’s website at www.wrc.sa.gov.au or alternatively phone the Council office at 8862 0800 and arrange to view a hard copy. A copy is also available for reading in the Port
Wakefield Post Office.

Book Fair
In Week 2, we had our Book Fair at school and children were very excited to look at the books on display, write their wish list and have a visit from a not so “Cranky Bear”. Who was Cranky Bear we wonder?? We sold $802.00 of books, posters and other items after children wrote out their wish list to share with parents. In term 4 we will be having another Book Fair at school, dates to be announced later. The school then receives a voucher to purchase books for our school library and resources to use in the classroom. Thank you
We would like to thank our school leaders - Lachie and Nic who represented our school at the Anzac Day service here at Port Wakefield during the holidays. Both students spoke extremely well when doing their readings and also when placing a wreath on behalf of the school community. Also thanks to the families who were able to bring Nic and Lachie to the service at 5.45 am on Anzac Day. Also very special thanks to Mary and Lindsay Thompson who kindly gave the school Chrysanthemums so that many of our students were able to give some flowers to their Mums. Playgroup Just a reminder that playgroup at Port Wakefield Kindergarten is now on Mondays from 12.45- 2.45pm. Please let all of your friends know and invite them to attend with their children as well as families from our school with younger children. Wanted Still needed small yellow and blue lids and light and dark green lids from orange juice bottles etc. If you can collect some for us it would be greatly appreciated. Spirited SA Port Wakefield Ghost Tours
Cold weather kept the numbers low for the tour on Saturday night. However, those attending (all new to the ghost tour experience) found the exercise fascinating and look forward to coming back again. Tour organiser, Sharon, provides a variety of electronic equipment for investigation. Being a historic town Port Wakefield has a lot to offer in the way of paranormal activity.
Watch out for the next tour and join the group!
Students from Immanuel College

Groups of students, travelling via coach often stop at Port Wakefield for a ‘pit stop’, using the pool area to stretch their legs, playing on the playground equipment and using public toilets near the SM Hall
