Luke 3:22 ______________________________________________________________
Luke 3:22 (AMP) 22 And the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a
voice came from heaven, saying, you are My Son, My Beloved! In You I am well pleased and
find delight!
Psalm 55:6 ______________________________________________________________
Psalm 55:6 (AMP) 6 And I say, oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.
Psalm 68:13 _____________________________________________________________
Psalm 68:13 (AMP) 13 though you [the slackers] may lie among the sheepfolds [in slothful ease,
yet for Israel] the wings of a dove are covered with silver, its pinions excessively green with gold
[are trophies taken from the enemy].
Song of Solomon 5:12 ______________________________________________________
Song of Songs 5:12 (AMP) 12 His eyes are like doves beside the water brooks, bathed in milk and
fitly set.
Isaiah 59:11 _____________________________________________________________
Isaiah 59:11 (AMP) 11 We all groan and growl like bears and moan plaintively like doves. We look
for justice, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far from us.

Matthew 10:16 _________________________________________________________
Matthew 10:16 (AMP) 16 Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves; be
wary and wise as serpents, and be innocent (harmless, guileless, and without falsity) as doves.
Genesis 8:9-11 ___________________________________________________________
Genesis 8:9-11 (AMP) 9 but the dove found no resting-place on which to roost, and she
returned to him to the ark, for the waters were [yet] on the face of the whole land. So, he put
forth his hand and drew her to him into the ark. 10 He waited another seven days and again sent
forth the dove out of the ark. 11 And the dove came back to him in the evening, and behold, in
her mouth was a newly sprouted and freshly plucked olive leaf! So, Noah knew that the waters
had subsided from the land.
2. Porter. Gate keeper. Door keeper. Watchman. Servant. In Psalm 84:10 the porter is a
burden bearer. [carries luggage]
John 10:3 _______________________________________________________________
John 10:3 (AMP) 3 The watchman opens the door for this man, and the sheep listen to his voice
and heed it; and he calls his own sheep by name and brings (leads) them out.
Mark 13:34; John 18:16, 17 _________________________________________________
Mark 13:34 (AMP) 34 it is like a man [already] going on a journey; when he leaves home, he puts
his servants in charge, each with his particular task, and he gives orders to the doorkeeper to be
constantly alert and on the watch.
2
John 18:16-17 (AMP) 16 But Peter was standing outside at the door. So, the other disciple, who
was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the maid who kept the door and brought
Peter inside. 17 Then the maid who was in charge at the door said to Peter, you are not also one
of the disciples of this Man, are you? He said, I am not!
John 16:8-11; Acts 16:14 ___________________________________________________
John 16:8-11 (AMP) 8 And when He comes, He will convict and convince the world and bring
demonstration to it about sin and about righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing
with God) and about judgment: 9 About sin, because they do not believe in Me [trust in, rely on,
and adhere to Me]; 10 About righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing with God),
because I go to My Father, and you will see Me no longer; 11 About judgment, because the ruler
(evil genius, prince) of this world [Satan] is judged and condemned and sentence already is
passed upon him.
Acts 16:14 (AMP) 14 one of those who listened to us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of
Thyatira, a dealer in fabrics dyed in purple. She was [already] a worshiper of God, and the Lord
opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul.
Acts 16:6-11 ______________________________________________________________
Acts 16:6-11 (AMP) 6 And Paul and Silas passed through the territory of Phrygia and Galatia,
having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to proclaim the Word in [the province of] Asia. 7 And when they had come opposite Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus
did not permit them. 8 So passing by Mysia, they went down to Troas. 9 [There] a vision
appeared to Paul in the night: a man from Macedonia stood pleading with him and saying,
come over to Macedonia and help us! 10 And when he had seen the vision, we [including Luke]
at once endeavored to go on into Macedonia, confidently inferring that God had called us to
3
proclaim the glad tidings (Gospel) to them. 11 Therefore, setting sail from Troas, we came in a
direct course to Samothrace, and the next day went on to Neapolis.
3. Paraclete – (advocate – to plead in favor of, support, recommend publicly)
John 14:16 ______________________________________________________________
John 14:16 (AMP) 16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter
(Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain
with you forever—
John 14:26 ______________________________________________________________
John 14:26 (AMP) 26 But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener,
Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in my name [in my place, to represent me
and act on my behalf], He will teach you all things . And He will cause you to recall (will remind
you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you.
John 15:26 _______________________________________________________________
John 15:26 (AMP) 26 But when the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor,
Strengthener, Standby) comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of Truth Who
comes (proceeds) from the Father, He [Himself] will testify regarding Me.
John 16:7 ________________________________________________________________
John 16:7 (AMP) 7 However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable
(good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the
Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to
4
you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close
fellowship with you].
Acts 9:31 ________________________________________________________________
Acts 9:31 (AMP) 31 so the church throughout the whole of Judea and Galilee and Samaria had
peace and was edified [growing in wisdom, virtue, and piety] and walking in the respect and
reverential fear of the Lord and in the consolation and exhortation of the Holy Spirit , continued
to increase and was multiplied.
Romans 8:27 _____________________________________________________________
Romans 8:27 (AMP) 27 And He Who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of
the [Holy] Spirit [what His intent is], because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God] in
behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with God's will.
Romans 8:26a ____________________________________________________________
Romans 8:26a (AMP) 26 so too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our
weakness;
Psalm 89:19 _____________________________________________________________
Psalm 89:19 (AMP) 19 Once You spoke in a vision to Your devoted ones and said, I have
endowed one who is mighty [a hero, giving him the power to help—to be a champion for
Israel]; I have exalted one chosen from among the people.
4. Witness. (witan, meaning to know) Romans 8:16 ___________________________________
5
Romans 8:16 (AMP) 16 The Spirit Himself [thus] testifies together with our own spirit, [assuring
us] that we are children of God.
(Pardon) Romans 5:1; 8:1 ___________________________________________________
Romans 5:1 (AMP) 1 THEREFORE, SINCE we are justified (acquitted, declared righteous, and
given a right standing with God) through faith, let us [grasp the fact that we] have [the peace of
reconciliation to hold and to enjoy] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah,
the Anointed One).
Romans 8:1 (AMP) 1 THEREFORE, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of
wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh,
but after the dictates of the Spirit.
(Adoption) Romans 8:14-17; Galatians 4:6 _____________________________________
Romans 8:14-17 (AMP) 14 for all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For [the
Spirit which] you have now received [is] not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage
to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing son-ship] in [the bliss
of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father! 16 The Spirit Himself [thus] testifies together with our
own spirit, [assuring us] that we are children of God. 17 And if we are [His] children, then we are
[His] heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ [sharing His inheritance with Him]; only
we must share His suffering if we are to share His glory.
(Sanctification) 1 John 4:13 _________________________________________________
1 John 4:13 (AMP) 13 by this we come to know (perceive, recognize, and understand) that we
abide (live and remain) in Him and Him in us: because He has given (imparted) to us of His
[Holy] Spirit.

5. Finger. (Power [omnipotence], divine authorship) the evidence of divine authorship is the
work of His Hands.

kingdom of God has come upon you [before you expected it].
Luke 11:20 (AMP) 20 But if I drive out the demons by the finger of God,

never came by human impulse], but men spoke from God who were borne along (moved and
impelled) by the Holy Spirit.
b. Judgment. Exodus 8:19 ______________________________________________________

stone but on tablets of human hearts.
Hebrews 8:10 _______________________________________________________
Hebrews 8:10 (AMP) 10 for this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after

and I will inscribe them on their minds (on their inmost thoughts and understanding),
Personal Do you permit The Holy Spirit to “pen” something fresh upon your heart each day?
LIVING SYMBOLS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Syllabus 7
DOVE.
Perhaps the most beloved word-picture of The Holy Spirit is the Dove. It speaks of The
Holy Spirit’s nature and office.
“The Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon Him (Luke 3:22). Please note
the word “like”, comes from Strong’s word # 5616 and means: as if; as [it had been, it was]. We
will see this word in reference to The Holy Spirit again. Such a type speaks of the spirit’s nature
9
– loving; of the Savior’s mission – peaceful and sacrificial; of the saint’s character – innocent and
harmless. Would this be a description of your character – innocent and harmless? If it is, then
this is evidence of the Spirit’s indwelling.
We saw from our lesson today that the dove is described in
Scripture as:
Swift in flight. – Wings of a dove.
Beautiful plumage – wings of a dove covered in silver.
Constant in love.
(Song of Solomon 5:12) Mournful in note.
Gentle in manner – Harmless
Particular in food. (Are we particular with our choice of ‘spiritual’
food?)
PORTER Porter is the word the Lord in John 10:3 uses of the Holy Spirit. “To him the porter opens” KJ; has a double meaning: “A doorkeeper” from porta, one who waits at a door to receive a message. Also, “a burden bearer’, from portare, meaning to carry – a porter at a train station. Jesus is before us as the Shepherd and the Holy Spirit is the Porter. It is His work to open and keep open doors for the Savior. It is the Holy Spirit who opens up the door of the world. The Holy Spirit prompts missionary effort. It is the Holy Spirit who shuts doors (see Acts 16:6-11). He not only opens/closes doors He also guards them so that strangers and hirelings cannot pass through. It is our privilege to assist the Porter as under-porters. Do we put forth the necessary effort to open doors to the Savior for a lost world – community – neighbor?

SAV IOR
PARACLETEThe Lord used this designation of The Spirit at least four
times. He is spoken of as “The Comforter”. He is Christ-like
and abiding (comes to stay). He comes as the Gift of the
Father. He is represented as the Gift of the Son. Christ’s
ascension is the basis of this Gift. He had to return to The
Father before He could send The Spirit.
We walk in the (continuous) comfort of The Holy Spirit.
He is our advocate – He makes intercession for us. This term implies a pleader who
comes forward in favor of, and as the representative of, another. Sound familiar? We have two
advocates or Paracletes – The Holy Spirit within us so that we may not sin – Jesus with the
Father to plead His Blood for us when we do.
He is the Helper. The Spirit helps our infirmities. (Romans 8:26)
Scofield says of Him, “He is the One called alongside to help”.
Why then do we turn to worldly sources for help when we have such
a willing, all-powerful, Helper as the Spirit? He is always present to
be the “Helper to the helpless”.
WITNESS Paul refers to the Spirit in this telling fashion. He says of Him “The Spirit Himself bears
witness” (Romans 8:16 RV). “My conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit”.
(Romans 9:1) How does our conscience bear witness? – By the Witness who lives within.
11
The word witness comes from witan, meaning, “To know”. A witness is one who sees and
knows. A witness is brought to court because he knows a piece of information needed in the
case. The Holy Spirit witnesses in, and to the believer.
The Holy Spirit is witness to creation. He inspired Moses to write of “The Beginning” and
creation of matter and man. He was there – He watched it happen. He was the one hovering
over the deep when God the Father commanded the light to shine. He was present when Noah
built the ark and the floods came. He was there – all through history (His Story). He was there
as He “overshadowed” Mary and she became pregnant with Jesus. He was there at Jesus’
baptism when He descended in bodily form upon Jesus like
a Dove. He was there during Jesus’ earthly ministry. He was there when through the Power of
The Holy Spirit Jesus healed the sick and cast out demons. He was there as a first-hand witness
to the mocking, scourging, spitting upon, nailing and crucifixion of Jesus. He felt Jesus’ pain; He
strengthened Jesus through His ordeal. He was there and caused the resurrection.
The resurrected Jesus “breathed” upon the disciples and told them to receive the Holy Spirit;
this was their born-again experience. This experience was so important to Jesus that He went
back to make sure Thomas was included. He promised that very soon they would be baptized
(immersed) in the Holy Spirit and be endued with Power from on high. This One who shared
the events of Good Friday and Easter Sunday would now reside in man. His is not a hearsay
witness – His is a firsthand witness – as God He is an accurate witness. Amazing that such a One
would choose to indwell me. From my own personal perspective (in a way) The Holy Spirit has
made an even more profound sacrifice – Jesus DIED for me – but The Holy Spirit chooses to LIVE
in me. He is intimately aware of all the selfish/sordid thoughts that scramble through my mind
– and He still intercedes for me! He witnesses love and forgiveness to me!
He witnesses of pardon. We are sinners in the court of divine
justice – we are guilty of the crime. Our advocate pleads the Blood of
Christ. By His atoning work as our Savior we are forgiven. The Holy Spirit
enters in as our witness of pardon and gives us the assurance that there is
12
now no condemnation upon us.
He is the witness of adoption. We go home from court and find ourselves brought into a
divine family with the Spirit as our Witness of adoption. His indwelling makes us perfectly “at
home”.
He is the witness of sanctification. The pardoned one becomes a son in the Father’s house.
We enter a holier sphere – son to saint. As Sanctifier, the Spirit prompts us to dedicate all we
are and have to the Lord.
The Spirit within is a witness of our growing likeness to Jesus.
FINGER 1. Finger is synonymous with power and omnipotence.
It also includes the infallible evidence of divine authorship.
Jesus said, “I cast out devils by the Spirit of God”
(Matthew 12:28); “I with the finger of God cast out devils”
(Luke 11:20).
References to the “Finger of God” describe Him, as the
Agent accomplishing the purpose of the divine will.
References to the “Finger of God” describe Him,
as the Agent accomplishing the purpose of the divine will.
The finger of God is associated with the two tablets upon which was the Law of God.
As the Finger of God etched the commandments (law) upon the stone so He now etches the law
upon the hearts of believers.
13
2. Finger is associated with judgment. When the magicians with their enchantments
could no longer produce the plagues with which God smote Egypt they confessed to Pharaoh
“This is the finger of God” (Exodus 8:19). Belshazzer saw those fingers “as of a man’s hand” in
Daniel 5:5.
Finger is associated with the Power of God.
David considered the heavens as the work of God’s fingers
(Psalm 8:3). Scripture gives abundant evidence that The Spirit is
the Creator Spirit.
Paul uses the “Finger” in describing the Spirit’s fashioning of the saints of God.
(2 Corinthians 3:3; Hebrews 8:10; 10:16)
Are you an epistle of Christ?
Are God’s laws ever on your mind and written on your heart?
