The purpose of this studio was to use computational theory to design a Pop Up somewhere along Queen Street in Toronto. The project is a Pop-Up sports equipment rental facility, and park bench infrastructure designed for Trinity Bellwoods Park in the Queen West area of Downtown Toronto. The main computational strategy used is that of the lofted curve. One is based on the sports geometry. The other on the seating geometry.

An urban infill ecohouse project designed for a site between a church and a house in Kitchener, ON. The Aligned house is designed around a linear open concept plan to provide for good ventilation and daylighting. Other sustainable strategies include the use of a concrete footing foundation to minimize site disturbance, the use of SCIP panels in construction, concrete floors to provide thermal mass, and the use of many reclaimed and recycled materials.

A digital media library and art gallery on the Via Ostiense in Rome. Ostiense is still a develop-ing neighbourhood in Rome that was once an industrial centre of the city’s South end. Today, the area is characterized by an urban art cul-ture as well as a student population from Roma Tre University. Biblioteca sees to provide a new destination for Ostiense combining the arts, and education into one complex.
The building is organized around a gallery podi-um slab from which two volumes that house the digital media centre, and library intersect. These volumes are rotated towards the Gazometer, an important industrial artifact, and also Roma Tre.To suggest the differing programs, each volume has an opposing type of core. The digital centre is about knowledge and ideas to the outside, therefore having a closed core, while the library is seen as more internal space with an open core.

CHAIRfor RICHARD SERRA•2B Structural Design • Fall 2011 • Team
Seating is sculpture.Sculpture is magnetic.
Magnetic is moving.Moving is progressive.
Progressive is dynamic.Dynamic is propelling.Propelling is deluding.Deluding is abstract. Abstract is refined.
Refined is simple.Simple is minimal.
Minimal is the form which one sees as a simple object, It is a refinedcreation that pulls one closer to observe, It is the abstract entity that
deludes the observer, yet propels them into a dynamic experience, It is progressive in the sense that it encourages movement, and it is
magnetic in the sense that it keeps one engaged, It is sculpture; it is seating; it is a chair.
