Lauren PrintzAs a recent graduate of Philadelphia University, I still consider myself very much a student. I have a deep passion for learning, traveling, and new experiences. I seek career opportunities to further my knowledge and expand my experiences as a young professional. I am most interested in urban design, urban renewal and humanitarian architecture. Eco-CleanDesign IX Comprehensive Studio

The site is located along Columbus Boulevard, adjacent to the Delaware River in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Through extensive site analysis, we determined the Delaware River is extremely polluted due to the undersized sewer system of Philadelphia. Research on both water purification technologies and urban sanitation facilities guided our project goal: to prevent combined sewer overflow (CSO) and decontaminate the Delaware River.

ECO CLEAN integrates passive design technologies into natural landscapes to create a public sanctuary. ECO CLEAN contains public galleries for visitors and offers classes to local residents to raise awareness of the city’s sewer system and educate the public about the importance of water.

Project H.O.M.E.Design X Socio-Political Studio

The students of the Design X studio collaborated with Philadelphia’s leading non-profit homeless organization, Project H.O.M.E. Together, the students worked with members of Project H.O.M.E. to devise solutions through comprehensive design to improve the lives of 25 homeless women in the Women of Change Safe Haven homeless shelter. The close proximity of people mixed with lack of individual privacy has created problems between residents. Social mediation and understanding mental illness was crucial to meeting the residents’ needs.

The goal of the project was to design and construct an installation within the existing facility, the Women of Change Safe Haven. The installation will maximize limited space while successfully and safely fulfilling the immediate needs of residents. The design also had to respond to the use of the residents, safety and security, durability, and maintenance.

Greenwich TowerISOVER Multi-Comfort House Student Competition 2011

Greenwich Tower in New York City introduces building technologies to utilize the environment to power most of the necessary building energy needed for its lifetime. Located in Greenwich South, the multiple-use skyscraper houses a large and diverse program, including apartments, hotel, student housing, concert hall, library, and retail space. Despite the large footprint and staggering height, the tower’s energy usage is surprisingly low - the tower’s numerous building systems power 75% of total energy usage. The Lower Manhattan skyscrapers employs a large geothermal system, central air shaft, grey water collection, and glass fins that collect light and heat to fuel other numerous building systems.

Architecture 2012

Once a booming industrial neighborhood, the now abandoned Reading Viaduct was once home to automobile, textile, and print manufacturers. Today, abandoned buildings, including the Reading Viaduct and the Spring Garden Train Station, remain as ghosts of the past, lying vacant for temporary shelter for wanderers.

Visitors must coexist peacefully with current inhabitants by combining history and nature. All facilities are open to the public and free of charge. The Reading Viaduct will be revitalized as an urban park floating above the existing site, breathing new life into a once abandoned area. Three outdoor meeting spaces will accomodate over 500 people at a time, allowing visitors to use amentities at the users’ discretion. Spring Garden Greenway will allow people to meet, communicate and coexist.

Aerial Perspective

Loft TowerAdvanded Modeling Studio

A collection of rendered images based from an academic exercise. The assignment required the digital creation of a skyscraper, including surrounding context, materiality, and detail. The tower was to be designed, modeled, and rendered using different programs and techniques. The render styles focused on photo-realistic imaging. All 3D modeling and rendering was done in Revit, Rhino, and 3DS Max. Post-production altering was done in Adobe Photoshop.
