Winning Project of UrbanShed CompetitionUrban Umbrella

An umbrella and a scaffold have a similar function. They both protect the users form

something coming over them. However, even there is a simple structure process of

an umbrella; a scaffold has a complicated structure process.

To simplify the structure, Urban Umbrella follows the basic process of an umbrella,

which has a horizontal structure components connected to the center post. This sys-

tem offers easy assembly process to the workers.

Greened Concourse

Today, the most important issue in urban design is how to make an eco-friendly

city. The project suggests a green tower above Grand concourse which purifies the

pollution itself, and also supports the cities infrastructure. This Green concourse will be

the beginning of this eco-friendly development in Bronx.

The Hetropia

This project is about constructing a bridge park to connect two islands which are

placed in an extreme weather in Bering Strait. Since the weather condition is difficult

for construction, all the pieces will be prefabricated and just be connected on the

site. The facade will have a frosty layer so the skin will be covered with ice and work

as an ‘Igloo’ to bring comfort area to the site.

Stands for Healing

DMZ, is a relic of the war that human’s rationality full of egoism had created, and

over 50 years, no single person was able to enter the zone. In the mean time, animals

overcame the chaos and settled inside the zone. A new symbiotic relationship

between human and animals, would act as information that could revitalize human’s

barren state of mind.

The element becomes placed in the landscape basically respecting the natural

topography. Accordingly, the animals would recognize the element as a natural

object. Lastly, people would feel the reflection of the past and the impression of the

great Mother Nature while they realize themselves as part of it.

Taiwan Tower

The 518-meter-tall Taiwan Tower (TT518) is an innovative new landmark for Taiwan

and Taichung City. Located at the site of the former Taichung (Shuinan) Airport,

the new Taiwan Tower (TT518) will become the most important new development

in the country. Incorporating a range of programs, this new international cultural

destination will bring pride to the people of Taichung and Taiwan.

The aesthetic, form and structure of TT518 are modern and cutting-edge. As the

most visible and recognizable structure within the country’s skyline, TT518 will position

Taichung as a leading world class city.

The iconic design integrates a large public plaza and parkspace with a number of

elevated programs contained within the TT518 tower structure: the Museum

of Taichung City Development, restaurants and cafes, conference facilities, a

telecommunications center, and environmental monitoring station, observation

areas including the open-air SkyDeck and the funicular SkyRide.
