Observation Tow

2nd Year Design Studio
The Observation Tower was designed with the ability to enjoy surrounding views at many diff erent elevations. The form is infl uenced by moments to view the sky, the distance, and the ground. The tower has a glass elevator for easy viewing, stairs with many landings, to allow viewing at one’s own pace, and hollow columns for draining roof rain and adding another element for occupants.

The Quad creates a complete educational environment. It includes a library, art gallery, residence with work space, and public parking. It would allow for students and faculty members to have all required buildings for education with-in a short travel distance.
These images show the interior of the library through a section model and perspective drawing. The lower fl oor would serve for book shelving and administrative functions. The upper fl oor would serve for reading and meeting/study spaces.
The design of the Learning Center began with creating form without measurements. The initial form came from understanding the site and its surroundings.

Learning Center
While constructing a detailed model for the Center, there was a conscious eff ort to assemble it in a way it can also be disassembled for further understanding of systems and connections.

Cantilever and Urban Intervention

A cantilever became the center of the design, that would help to infl uence the surrounding areas as well as create unique building types for the downtown area.

The main design eff ort and development went into a restaurant/bar establishment. This building is where the infl uence of the cantilever is experienced the most. The design included a restaurant, a water wall, an indoor/outdoor bar, a performance stage, and an outdoor space on the lower level for dining, and on the upper level for lounging.
This mass scale model shows how the intervention takes advantage of the elevation changes throughout the site. It also begins to show some of the spacing qualities the cantilevered building can bring to the location.
