SHELTERS FOR ALL HOUSING COMPETITION
1
This is a project I entered for Duke University’s Shelters for All competition. The aim of thiscompetition was to develop sustainable housing for developing nations. Especially nationsthat are prone to natural disasters. So I chose to design for my native country of Bangladesh. My design utilized the local materials, such as hemp fiber and bamboo. Since Bangladesh isprone to flooding my unit was designed to prevent damage from water. I won third place for my entry.
NESTIV HOUSING COMPETITION
The Nestiv Housing Competition is a project I did in collaboration with two friends. The purposeof this project was to set up a database of aesthetic modular housing and clients wouldchoose which house they liked. There upon the chosen house would be constructed. So my friends and I decided that our unit should be constructed from shipping containers. Unfortunately, we did not win this competition. But it was a positive learning experience.

CHINATOWN COMMUNITY CENTER
This project was my final design class project. We had an actual client from Chinatown who was thechairman for the development of Chinatown. Our challenge was to design a community center thatwould preserve the culture of China and also educate non-Chinese on Chinese culture. One issue the client expressed that the newer generation of Chinese were leaving Chinatown. He felt that thiswould lead to gentrification and loss of culture. Since most buildings in China are rent-controlled.So this center would serve as an inhibiter to keep the youth in the neighbourhood as well as preservetheir culture.
