PARK PARK

The site is located on the seashore of north Shanghai suburb, an old, redeveloping district that was once coded as an industrial area. The new development is dedicated to develop a series of parks and eco systems for leisure living, working and entertaining in order to reverse the clinched impression of the community. Our project sits on the junction of coast drive and tunnel that speaks on behalf of the entire region, a symbolic area that has to tie into new adjacent community and park system. In the meantime, the design could not abandon the heritage of the region.

T h i s s c h e m e e m b o d i e s a sense of unification that summons

all buildings into a single concept. The museum sits in between flares that wrap around

the observation tower and elevate to the top which ultimately merged into one skin.

One the lower level, the skin flips and converges into the central plaza to enhance centralization. The center of plaza sinks down to the

underground dinning plaza and hence merges into the gigantic retail level.

Over the RihneBoutique Hostel

Over-the-Rhine is a neighborhood in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is believed to be the largest, most intact urban historic district in the United States. Over-the-Rhine was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 with 943 contributing buildings. It contains the largest collection of Italianate architecture in the United States, and is an example of an intact 19th-century urban neighborhood. Besides being a historic district, the neighborhood has an arts community that is unparalleled within Cincinnati. The site sits at the commercial center of Over-the-Rhine, next to the Findlay market and on an existing soup kitchen called "Our Daily Bread". Therefore, the new construction is mean to be firmly connected, not only the overall architectural heritage but also the food culture of the community.

Page 11: Portfolio

The building contains a variety of activities on the west tower of the building that is angled towards to directions of major attractions in the city of Cincinnati. A grand skylight was deployed to enlighten the existing Our Daily Bread cafeteria, meanwhile having a self-cooking dining area on the rooftop that would address the food nature of the adjacent food market. The registration is located on the top floor with a balcony lounge that can be directly accessed through elevator from ground level. Other functions l ike the chi ldren center, f i tness, observation deck and music bar are located in the floor in-between.

The Central Stair is a aluminum framed and iron structured "Jewel box" fitting

363 pieces of diamond glass panels. These windows are double paneled and angled towards the major attractions of

Cincinnati, such as downtown financial distr ict, Mount Adam and Union train Station. The grand stair also works as an

interaction space for people to mingle and relax, other than serving as a means

of egress. The skin of dual towers is made of corten steel to col laborate with the surrounding brick buildings. These panels are

adjustable at the window opening to provide shading and privacy. Besides, the floors are

made of precast concrete open slabs with HVAC fitted in to shrink down the floor depth so that more floors are allowed under height limit.

The site is located right next to an existing parking divided by a 16’ alley. The adjacent parking garage is a 4-story building running by Commins Diesel Engine, a primary local enterprise. In order to create direct access from the park garage to the accommodation area for visiting scholars, which located on the third and forth floor, a shared staircase is located on the northwest corner of the site.

Movement and Rythum are the one of the most pivital feature of the building to be emphasised in terms of the narrow and linear Site. The wood sluts alined along Washington street would intrigue a parelle movement from north to south, creating a vary of open and solid. It also contributes to the shading system to avoid direct sunlight into display area. On the upper floors, the intense "wood screen" helps privacy protection. The wood texture increases the natural flaor of the building overall. At the meantime, the double high frosted exhibition “Chunk” creates interaction with movement on 6th ave, from east to west. The Materality and Opacity of the building reflects the division of activities and privacy of the program
