KSCOVER LETTER
-
Hi Brian,
I would love to be a part of your team. Please allow me to take a moment of your time and tell you why I am what you are looking for! I’m a 21 year old graphic designer who graduated from a Bachelor of Design majoring in Graphic Design and minoring in illustration from AUT. I loved my time studying as it offered me the opportunity to totally focus on what I love for 3 solid years and soak up as much knowledge as I possibly could.
I am currently employed as an in-house graphic designer at S&M, a boutique social media agency located in the centre of Auckland CBD. In this role I have learnt to produce day-to-day solutions for a range of clients, which has proved invaluable experience in allowing me to learn a lot about the speed and nature of the industry.
I am not sure if you heard about Uncoated but I was one of the kids who made it happen (we were on Paul Henry show...no big deal). Uncoated was a student lead, end of year exhibition that had 150 AUT students showcasing their work.My main role was to design and come up with the products for the goodie bags, stay within a limited budget and organize people to complete the goodie bags according to my designs. I was also a class representative where I was making sure that everyone was staying up to date with the exhibition progress. The main part of this role was to organize a space which was given to my class and ensure that the room and student’s work were presented at an industry level.
I will keep this short and sweet. Insight seems like an awesome place to be interning at and I could think of nothing better than being surrounded by creatives while learning from your experienced team. I might be a rookie in this industry but I believe I can more than compensate through my love and passion for it, as well as my ambition to succeed.
Thanks for taking the time to look through my work, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Have a great day,Ksenia

These are bear, wolf and fox pictograms which were explored through simplification of their forms. The brief reguirement was to create 3 different styles of animals.
All of the process and final work were put into a publication.

One of the tasks was to play around with a different media. I experimented with ice + ink since all 3 of the animals could be found in cold regions.

‘how to’: designing procedural instructions2
Tree tapping is a popular practice in Europe. The main idea of it is to extract sap through a drilled hole on a tree. The extracted sap is normally drunk raw or made into syrup.
The brief required finding a badly presented set of instructions and redesign them. The instructions were taken from a text-heavy blog post which did not have a visual step-by-step guide or clear points on what to do. Instead of formatting the text, I came up with the idea of a birch tree kit which contains all the components for tapping a tree as well as the step-by-step instructions.
My goal for this brief was to use a minimal amount of written information and make the illustrations as clear as possible. They were engraved onto a wooden box that was designed and made by me.
The step number is represented through the leaves and a hierarchical order of the trees. The instructions were engraved onto the kit.
The kit has a printed brochure that states which tools are included and needed for the tree tapping as well as some information on which trees are suitable for the sap collection.

country branding3
This project explores the image of Russia in the world community which was made up by its historical and geopolitical opponents.
All the myths and stereotypes about Russia started a long time ago but a more intensive information warfare began after Napoleonic battles. The enemies created a strong and negative image about Russia because it was based on a believable mythology such as excessive drinking, uncontrolled criminal activity and having bears as pets.
The project is targeted at people who believe the stereotypes about the country. Using FIFA World Cup as a medium to brand Russia, I created a package that a person would get before arriving to the country.
The package includes a badge that represents a ticket to the event, a vodka bottle, a guide “How To Russia” on surviving in the country, a poster with Russian politicians which are represented as a Russian soccer team, postcards and stamps which have illustrations of recent political disputes.

Have you ever stepped in gum ? Yes, it is rather annoying. Especially in summer, you willnever get it off your shoe!
The image on the right is a final, A2 poster for auniversity assignment. The brief was to create a poster addressing an issue of my choice.Initially, I wanted to use watercolors for my posteras the media would have created the illusionof a blown up bubble which would have showntransparency primarily in the text. After doing aquick trial, I realized that the media wasn’t punchyenough, so I decided to draw it digitally and showthe “stickiness” of the gum instead.
At this stage I wanted to introduce some textureinto lettering. The text was made from play dough, photographed and retouched on Photoshop. The next idea was to try out paper craft as I stillwasn’t sure about my chosen media. It created aflatter, bolder look.
My final poster is a combination of play dough andpaper craft which was photographed and adjustedin Photoshop. This poster is targeting a youngeraudience. The use of bright colours as well as anillustration of a young person would attract a lotmore teenagers as they are primary “chewers”.

illustration/ character design/ storyboard
Dyadya (which means “dude” in Russian”) is a commercial fisherman from Russia who breeds birds inside of his cabin as a hobby. I got inspired by Soviet cartoons from the 60’s which were drawn really flat with lots of white space around the characters. On the right is a storyboard about Dyadya’s lunch that was stolen by one of his birds. All of the draw-ings are done with ink and watercolors.
