This is a portfol io consists of a select ion of my work since 2012. I t includes

inter iors as wel l as product design. Since I have always been interested in

anything sty le related, I made the decision to persue a degree in Inter ior de-

sign to further my knowledge and creat ivty in the area of study at the Malta

Inst i tute of Art and Design.

I often keep myself updated with the latest trends in fashion and inter iors by

reading blogs, magazines and books. Three women who have inspired me

are, Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn and Ol iv ia Palermo. Al l women come

from dif ferent decades but are always so t imeless and elegant.

Besides design, I a lso pract ice music and have achevied a grade 5 in both

Singing and Musical Theory and Rock and Pop exams, awarded by the Tr in-

i ty Gui ldhal l Col lege.

C H A I RD E S I G NFor one of the Ini t ia l assignments, we col laborated with a

recognised local design company, Camil ler i Par is Mode, to

design a chair using their fabr ics. My design was ult imately

chosen to be produced as a l i fe sized seat. This was a ben-

ef ic ia l experience since I was able to vis i t their factory whi le

the chair was being manufactured.

The idea was to have a seat suitable for indoors and out-

doors, depending on the customizable fabr ics being used. I t

has a raff ia back rest, and an upholstered seat were one can

chose the fabr ics according to colour, texture and weather.

While col lobarot ing with another local company, Domestica, we were given an assignment using sustainable guidel ines.

My ini t ia l idea was to create a l ight ing structure using sawdust from a wood workshop to create a sol id shade, the use

recycled corrugated cardboard to create a l ighter structre exposing more l ight and shadow. During the experimentat ion

process, di f ferent types of home made, natural glues were tested to hold the sawdust in a sol id form, but none were

successful due to the sofness of the mater ia l.

Bio Resin was the next opt ion which resulted in a more sol id form. A mold was created using two bowls for the sol id

shade. The sawdust and resin were mixed, then poured into the mold. Once sol id, the resin mix was removed from the

mold and shaped accordingly. The cardbard r ings were cut and placed onto the shade using wooden dowels.

The f inal l ight ing structure resulted in a glass l ike shade, that glows whi le shedding l ight into a l ighter cardboard structure.

Continuity is a chair designed according to my own de-

sign hypothesis. I wanted to create something minimal

and sleek by using minimum components. The less com-

ponents used, the more minimal the chair looks, hence

the name cont inuity, ref lect ing the cont inuous mater ia ls

used. The only mater ia l that makes the chair is acryl ic

since i ts l ight weight and translucent. The scaled model

of the chair was exhibited at Malta Design Week, May

2014.

T R A N S F O R M A B L EF A S H I O NIn a team of three, we were assigned to design

a capsule col lect ion of transformable garments,

then chose one to produce for a fashion show.

The image shown is the f inal, chosen garment,

We focused on explor ing di f ferent textures and

techniques to make the transformation more

dramatic. The garment starts as a black wrap

dress which features a tube l ike texture made

using a folding technique f i l led with foam.

The dress is then uncl ipped from the shoul-

ders to turn i t into a col lar - l ike cape using a

grey, woolen texture. The sty le was kept quite

minimal, using monochromatic colours, and a

simpe black and white photoshoot to enhance

the mater ia ls used.

Cara Cucina In groups of two, we had a project assigned with another Local company, Fino, who supply Venteta Cucine to Malta. The

assignment was to design a funct ional k i tchen space for a young couple, who enjoy entertaining. Immediately we thought of

incorporat ing a dining and social area to the kitchen so that i t can be an overal l interact ive space.

T O W N H O U S EI N T E R I O R SAs one of our Inter ior design assignments, we

were given a tradit ional Maltese townhouse to

renovate. As a group of three, we analyzed the

space and transformed it into one that is func-

t ional, sty l ish and comfortable for a fami ly of

three in this day and age. We tackled the space

asa whole by el iminat ing wal ls to create a more

funct ional space. Whi le introducing contempo-

rary features, we st i l l noted the tradit ional ele-

ments and enhanced them to create a certain

contrast.
