SITE STRATEGYThe stadium is located in Tampa Bay, Florida amongst the vibrant downtown and growing sporting events district. The building site is highly visible and accessible via the marina, expressway and it is serviced by Tampa’s public rail system.
Both form and function of the stadium are inspired by the nautilus shell. Where the shell uses its form to transport water, the stadium uses a similar strategy to conduct costal breezes into the stadium via airscoops.

PARAMETRIC MODELING
This stadium was com-pletely designed using Rhinoceros 3D and Grass-hopper. This allows for the rapid generation of multiple iterations which can easily be evaluated within the context of the project’s goals and constraints.
Because the region can experience hurricane-magnitude winds, it was necessary to consider forms that optimize aerody-namic performance.

TWO ATMOSPHERE (2 atm)
An important design consideration was designing a structure that performed well under high wind load but did not isolate the user from the beautiful Tampa environment. To this end, the stadium was designed with a retractable roof and a glazed diagrid dome structure.

The Capitol Theater came under new ownership in 2009. The theater had been converted to a bowing alley in the 1980’s and the new owner intended to restore the theater to its original condi-tion. Along with the restora-tion, the project scope was to include a support facility for set and costume design as well as an updated egress configuration from the theater.

The modern form of the new facility juxtapsoses the existing theater. Its transperancy allows the theater to exist as a backdrop to the addition.

Lower level space includes set design and storage.The upper level provides space for costume design.
The expansion provides for an additional theater entry from the parking lot.

SITE STRATEGYThe museum is located on Fort Monroe, VA. It was decommis -sioned in 2011 and returned to public ownership. The museum was designed to honor one of the first iron side war class vessels in the US.

MEMBRANELocal restrictions limited the building height to 35 ft. thus much of the program is below grade. The museum roof uses PTFE tensile membrane technology to allow for natural lighting deep into the

The primary curtain wall is made up of a rigid tension system that references the roof system.

PLANThe program includes a large permanent display area for a USS Monitor replica. Also included are spaces for temporary exhibits archiving, retail and administrative use.

ADAPTIVE SOUNDDIFFUSER+ABSORBERThis system uses Aurdino Microcontroller technology to enhance the acoustic experience by diffusing and/or absorbing sound depending on real time analysis.A condenser microphone monitors the environment and adjusts a servo motor to ‘open’ (absorb and diffuse) sound based on the sonic environment.
This hybrid acoustic system can be installed as a single unit or as multiple arrays in order to attenuate spaces where critical listen-ing is a priority. It offer both an aesthetically interesting and acoustically functional enhancement to space.

This is a photo essay that documents a volunteerproject that Chris assisted in during the Summer of 2000 in Reynosa, Mexico. For 10 days, Chris volunteered in the construction of a dormitory costructed from site-pressed clay bricks. As a high school science teacher at LaVergne High School in LaVergne, TN, Chris co-sponsored the school’s first Solar Car
