  • MIB in collaboration with IBERDROLA and AMEC, will develop the preliminary semi-prototypes for theITER First Wall Panels (FWP). Within the ITER reactor Tokamak, the FWP will be responsible tocontain the plasma fusion reaction under extreme conditions of high temperatures of millions ofdegrees and radiation generated by the fusion of isotopes of deuterium and tritium. The FWP arethe responsible for absorbing and dissipating such high temperatures. The total project consists ofthe manufacture of 220 components assigned to the European part and maintenance (every 10 yearsduring 30 years) and 200M budget.

For the development of the components complex technological processes are needed. One of theseprocesses is the beryllium mechanization.

ITER FWP Towards the Development of the ITER fusion reactor

    processes is the beryllium mechanization.

The aim of the ITER technological project is not only the development of a new energy source butalso develop new safe, flexible and sustainable manufacturing processes for fusion technology.

After having conversations with F4E (Fusion for Energy), both parts have study the current berylliumproblematic in the machining process and agree the development of new and advanced fabricationberyllium processes by R&D investments goal of this FP7 project.

MIB and IBERDROLA in collaboration with the company BCB and the Research Centers CT-

INNOVA, CPT, TECNALIA TEKNIKER and CEIT have already participated in the R & D project "ITER Blankets" (IDC-

20101156) within the CDTI call "Industry of the Science" for the development of advanced technologies for the

  • The TBM will be responsible system in the ITER reactor for the extraction of the energy by helium fusion reactor, regenerating in the process the necessary tritium fusion reaction. It is the heart of the energy generation system.

ITER TBM Towards the Development of the ITER fusion reactor

This is a project to determine the engineering feasibility and future fabrication of 8 TBM components (Test Blankets Moduls) integrating diverse technologies for the ITER experimental reactor ( 4.300M) and estimated budget for the TBM program of 380M.

For the development of the Spanish technical proposal has been performed a consortium with CIEMAT as a technology leader.
