THE STUDENT

Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
There are lots of words that can be used to define Educational Technology, but the most crucial is its definition to learning process and its meaningful assets towards education. And here are some of the definitions that may help you describe fully of what Educational Technology is.
Educational Technology is a theory of how problems in human learning are identified and solved.
Educational Technology is a field involved in applying a complex, integrated process to analyze human learning.
Educational Technology is a profession like teaching.
Educational Technology is concerned with the practice of using educational methods and resources.
Educational Technology is consists of reliable techniques or method for engaging learning such as cognitive learning strategies and critical thinking skills.
Technology: Boon or Bane?
(“Technology is in our hands. We can use it to build or destroy”.)
After understanding what Educational Technology is all about, it may be good to reflect on whether this thing called technology is a boon or a bane to education.
Technology can be fascinating and mind-boggling in what it can do. It can bring distant places and people together, establishing invisible but powerful connections. It can transform societies, economies and cultures by opening them up to other ideas and other options, raising new expectations and creating new needs.
Unfortunately, due to its modernization and exposure to people, many discovers that learners may be much witty than the teachers. And so, the roles of both learners and teachers will be switched in accordance to their usual roles, teachers will be the facilitator and the students will be the doer.
Therefore, technology is both a boon and a bane, and here’s a table for you to be guided:
TECHNOLOGY IS A BOON TECHNOLOGY IS A BANE
Makes our work faster and easier
Leads to laziness.
Able to communicate our relatives in far places.
Can cause health problems.
Serves as tool for gaining knowledge.
Increases our electricity bill.
Updates people from current events.
Children became prone to pornography.
Makes us more comfortable. Most of the people are fond of using the internet than
spending time with their families.
THE ROLES OF EDUCATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY IN LEARNING.
TRADITIONAL WAY
i.e. as delivery vehicles for instructional lessons.
The learner learns from the technology and the technology serves as a TEACHER. Technology serves as source and presenter of knowledge. It is assumed that “knowledge is embedded in the technology and the technology presents that knowledge to the student.”
CONSTRUCTIVIST WAY
i.e. as partner in the learning process.
Technology serves as a PARTNER IN LEARNING. Educational Technology serves as learning tools to learn with. It engages learners in active, constructive, intentional, authentic and cooperative learning. It provides opportunities for technology and learner interaction for meaningful learning.
ROLES OF TECHNOLOGY IN
LEARNING
(1) Technology as tools to
support knowledge
construction.
(2) Technology as information
vehicles for exploring to
support learnig-by-constructing.
(3) Technology as context to
support learning-by-
doing.
(4) Technology as a social medium to
support learning by conversing.
(5) Technology as intellectual
partner to support
learning-by-reflecting.
Learning Through
ED.TECH. 1 and ED.TECH. 2
There are many reasons why educational technology is taught in every school and why it is very important to the learning process especially in the upcoming generation of teachers. Educational technology 1 & 2 are the primary topics that are going to be taught in order to learn the purposes of technologies in the field of education.
The use of instructional materials are now the common way of teaching learners when engaging them to the real world of experience. Nowadays, the teachers are discussing their lessons with the use of instructional materials. Also, based on observation, the technology help us to have a better learning. We can easily understand and receive the information
As a future educator, one must know the right usage of the instructional materials in order to have a good image towards the new generation of learners and also to prevent the demolition of the roles of the teachers inside the classroom. The teacher must have an expertise on the usage of computers most specially that the learners nowadays are much exposed to that kind of materials. Being a computer literate teacher may be enough but needed to be polished once in a lifetime.
The technology will also help the teacher to easily give chances to the students that can excel in class by applying medias/computers in their learning process. There are instances that student is actively participating in the class when they are engage in using technology. In other words, the technology has a big role in the field of learning
THE STUDENT
AFTER ED.TECH.
Today, our learners will be much called as the 21st century generation of learners to whom we consider as the widely users of technology for educational purposes. They will serve as the foundations of the new modernized world of technology for better learning and passing it on to the upcoming generations.
The 21st century learners are able to:
use technology as their source of primary information and apply it to the educational world know the importance and purpose of educational technology towards education produce instructional materials fitted to the particular topic or concept familiarize the advantages and disadvantages of technologies know the limitations of technology to the learning process
