The icecaps are melted, the earth is flooded. The creatures still alive have
adapted themselves to live in this waterworld. These new watercreatures
needed to be sculpted into a wooden puzzle which can only be solved by
removing a key- piece
This puzzle consists of 5 pieces which are attached to eachoter with
pins and locks. You cannot remove any part as long as you didn’t
remove the key-piece first. By removing the beak from the puzzle, you
are able to remove the neck, only then the wings and tail.

Designing a lamp with extra features by only using the means of prototyping,
trial and error.
Basically, this phonograph doesn’t play music, it plays light as a way
of combining light and sound. A range of RGB leds is installed in the
lamp which is connected to a cd player. The volume will change the
intensity of the light. The bass will influence the red, trebble the green
and the higher tones the blue leds.

Betafence
Design a new product or idea, using the Betafence production abilities and
ideas, that would be fit for the ‘IKEA’ market.
We proposed a new technique to bend fences in order to produce
furniture. One of these was prototyped to prove our methods; a small
pouch. You can use the pouch in 2 different positions: the relax
position and the work position. The cushion itself is easily removable.

Find a new innovative way of packaging Nevea’s Labello Stick to celebrate
their anniversary.
The plastic Labello sticks get thrown away when empty and produce
a lot of waste. The result is a vintage looking brushed aluminium
stick which can be refilled. It also has a bigger capacity. The empty
capsules of lip balm can be replaced easily.

Design and render a 3D ‘Blobject’ or blob-object, that would fit inside
a bathroom environment.
This radiato is created in Cinema 4d. After sketching and searching
for a nice object to render, I started modelling on PC. After finishing
the organic shape, the object was rendered. The image to the right
was done in Bunkspeed Hypershot.

Design a new mechanical staircase elevator sytem. How realistic can
we make the system and mechanics to work properly, be reliable and
ergonomic.
The excisting starecase elevaters are big, lump and mostly ugly. The
main problem is the engine mounted on the chair itself. I placed it in
the otherwise unused space in the corner of the staircase. The engine
poweres a system of cables and wheels connected to the chair. Like
this it was possible to make the rails much much smaller and the chair
much lighter.

Find a new, innovative use for Glassiled’s glass with LED’s or the technology
used to make it. Where are the boundaries?
At one side of the glass I added a reflecting coating and at the other
side a 2-way mirror coating. The light of the LED’s in between of those
2 coatings gets reflected over and over again. Becouse one of the
coatings is a 2way mirror you will see an ‘infinite’ LED matrix in the
glass. By using additional coatings or special glass we can add even
more spectacular effects.

Design a new cheap mechanical barrier for a car park that should work
without the use of electrical power.
This concept consists of an array of little poles sticking out of a
speedhill. Without inserting the key first, it is impossible for the driver
to drive over the poles. If the key is inserted, the poles will sink into
the ground when driven over. Each time the poles go down, a small
mechanism counts the wheels to allows the barrier to lock itself again
when the car passed by and making sure the next car can’t pass
without paying first.

Create a new and sturdy waste bin for use in public spaces.
HYDE is a new dust-bin concept. Instead of trying to solve the many
physical problems users have with dust bins, the problems get solved
by letting the bin change the way users use them. This sturdy, smart
looking dust bin does this by closing and “hiding” from the user when
it’s full. Using a small pneumatic mechanism, the bin will notice when
the maximum tolerable amount of waste has been thrown inside.
This lets the bin close its lid softly and will make the users search for
another bin rather then trying to put their waste inside something that
doesn’t seem to be a bin to them.

Procarton
Design a new innovative and original package in foldable cardboard for a
choosen food or drink item.
I’ve always been a big fan of Delerium Tremens, a beer brewn in my
hometown. The beer was first brewn in 1989, so it’s basically as old
as I am. Hence its age, I thought it would be nice to design a ‘20th
Anniversary Gift Package’. The box contains: 4 bottles of Delirium
Tremens (33cl), One Glass, 4 Coasters, a gadget and a booklet with
information about the history of the brewery and its pink elephants.

Redesign the package for a chosen product. The design of the box can be
a new or existing one, but the graphics should be new.
I’ve always wanted one specific Lego Technic set when I was young.
And becouse it’s almost 20 years old by now, the graphics on the box
could use a make-over. Lego always managed to explain everything
with easy technical drawings and images and this is something it tried
to achieve in my design.

Mango
This is a redesign for a gift package box for the Lady Rebel Fragrance
by Mango. The idea was to make the seasonal package a bit more
creative and inspired by street art and collages... I tried to remake the
background of the logo of Lady Rebel by changing it into a collage.

Analyze pictures of insects and sketch them in 3D to transform that shape
into a robotic insect, while keeping the insect’s typical features. then render
it by using sketching methods such as Pantone markers, coloured pencil
and pastel chalk
The result is a Robotic cargo transport droid, using propellors. Drawn
with normal HB and 2H pencils. Rendered with Pantone Letraset
markers, Pastel Chalk and Darwin coloured pencils, in that order.

We had to design a booklet of 16 pages, or a sedicessime as they
call it in italy, about a typographic subject of choice. I choose the
relation between typography and sovjet propaganda posters and
how it inspired a lot of mordern fonts. Instead of making a folder
with 16 pages I made one with 8 pages with the historty of sovjet
propaganda and added a series of 8 mini posters, each with a real
vintage propaganda poster on the front, recreated with modern fonts,
with a font info sheet on the back.

It was time for a new logo for our scouts movement in Merelbeke.
Being 91 years old, we have a lot of history to consider, yet the logo
we had now was designed during the 90’s. After seeing some older
logos in vintage brochures during a little exhibition we did I wanted
to remake our logo and give it back the style of alll those years ago
to print on our t-shirts. The result is a mixture of new and old logos,
creating the classic, timeless design we were looking for.

When walking through Como in northern Italy, i saw a hotel with a repeating
pattern in the walls and windows. I just wondered how it would look if this
pattern would go on infinatly.
After taking some pictures of the walls I started experimenting and
manipulating with Photoshop, trying to find, correct and alter the
perspective so it would be possible to make a part of this photo
into a repeating pattern.

After seeing some weird photomannipulations on internet I thought
I’d give it a try myself. Basically you just take some pictures, slice
them up and copy, mirror and scale them untill you get a nice result.

Suddenly there was a need to go to the beach, so that’s what
happened. At first it seemed I was unlucky with the weather. Arriving,
it was impossible to see the sea even 10 meters away because of
the heavy mist that covered the whole coastline. Looking back now, I
wouldn’t say I was unlucky with the weather after all.

China was the best traveling experience I’ve had so far. The 10
days spent there really changed my image of China and its culture.
Between all the sightseeing and walking around in astonishment I
found some time to take some pictures.

Going on the Erasmus exchange project was one of the best disisions
I made in my life. It changed my life to say the least but also gave
me the possibility to see a bit of the world. Ofcourse, while traveling
through Italy, I had to take my camera. I just got my own camera when
I was in Italy so these photos are mainly experiments.

Finding some analog cameras was a nice way to start experimenting
and understanding more about photography. Not only is it wonderfull
to shoot with, it is a fantastic too to learn about how cameras,
photography and developing pictures work. Using those vintage
cameras with old films make the pictures have a strange atmosphere
around them which gives the pictures something extra.

Ruins have always intrigued me. Especially in combination
with photography. I’m a big fan of ‘urban exploration’ where
photographers go outside in search for deserted places, ruined
buildings or desolate parks.

About
InterestsMusic
I like listening just as much as playing music. I even try to make some myself now and then. Life without music? No thanks.
DesignDoing some personal projects now and then, designing or making stuff i need or like. Drawing and sketching has been a hobby for a
long, long time.
Graphical DesignAlthough designing some things on my own now and then, I like to spend my free time more with graphical design. The art of creating
astonishing things on a 2d medium intrigues me.
TypographyThe part of graphical design that interests me the most, which I only
recently realized after my exchange program in Milano.
Photography
Photography is my main occupation during my free time. I’ve been busy with photography since high school and try to improve myself as
much as possible.
ScoutingI have been a part of this youth movement for as long as I can
remember. After being a member for over 16 years I stayed to be the leader for the 8-11 year olds for 3 years. After that I did one last year
for the 12-13 year olds. Whether I will continue scouting or not, this will always remain one of the most important things in my life.
