REED 101

If the reed

warps, its nearly

impossible to

sound decent.

So why do reeds warp?

humidity

surface s torage

intervals between usage

Reeds have a wooden cellular structure, and when humid-ity levels change rapidly, the reed does not dry evenly, causing it to warp.

Storing reeds on a surface which is not perfectly flat (plastic) causes the moisture to leave the reed at an uneven rate. This results in warpage

Playing a reed to often early on in its breaking in cycle causes it to wear down quickly because the cells are not yet sealed.

PROUCT BENCHMARKING

Addressing the problems

The bottom line is that there is no complete reed storage solution on the market. They’re all too bulky, don’t store the reeds correctly, or don’t hold enough reeds. It’s time for something that works.

Freedom of wrist rotation is key.

Subjects reported less forearm fatigue with a handle angle of 19 degrees

Subjects did not prefer a circular handle profile, opt-ing instead for a slightly oblong design
