HELLO! MY NAME IS KARAN PATEL, AND THIS IS MY PORTFOLIO.

Page 2: Portfolios 5 compressed

A Little About MyselfI’m a design student living in New Jersey. Orginallly from Brooklyn, New York. I’m inspired by post-moderinism, minimalism, architecture, abstract art & various music that I listen to.

As a graphic design student, I am constantly thinking of ways to improve my surroundings. I often wonder what impact a product or ideawould generate if only it were supported by great design. The best graphic design works are much more than just something nice to look at. Great design stems are from fantastic concept that was applied successfully to the experienceof a brand or idea.

Suburban SlickSuburban Slick is a hair/grooming company, with a brand designed to showcase the suburban surf lifestyle. The brand illustrates the ideas of lifestyle and culture with three simple products: Clay Pomade with high hold, a men’s skin cream textured lotion used for protection from the sun and sea, and a men’s hair gel with medium hold.

The first blueberry flavored cereal, Boo Berry, was launched in December 1972.

Franken Berry was inspired by classic horror film vampires and the Frankenstein monster.

Count Chocula was introduced in 1971. This flavor was the only chocolate flavored cereals on the market. Pre-sweetened blends of oats and corn, they provided eight essential vitamins plus iron.

Raymond Loewy Timeline Raymond Loewy designed things from cigarette packaging to spacecrafts interiors. Using his various sketches as a departure point, I created a visual timeline in the spirit of Loewy.

(Left) Using one of the fifty images given to create a unclear message collage.

Reality HungerBased off David Shield’s book, Reality Hunger: “A Manifesto” a collage of unattributed quotes by luminous thinkers and writers about our obsession with “the real” in art, literature and culture. I was given chapter “G blur” in the book. Throughout the chapter the words had patterns and connections that seemed at times to be absent from the events words that were described. Using the images given to create a unclear messaged collage based newpaper.

Sharing OpinionsDesigned a system to share opinions with a public location. I had to create a solution that would enable participation from the audience to creative engagement around the issue, “What do you love to do?” Is there something in your life that you love doing that you would do even if no one paid you? Figuring out what you love to do so much that you don’t feel the need for money is a great way to tap into your passion. Everyone has times when they feel as if they could keep going forever and their energy has no bounds. Chances are that if something makes you feel like that, it’s because you love doing it so much.
