PORTSMOUTH MUSEUMS FOUNDATION SUMMER 2011
NEWS
521 Middle Street
Portsmouth, VA 23704
The Doors of Imagination are now Open
The Portsmouth Museums Foundation thanks all of our donors for
helping to make our dream become a reality! On May 16 we held a donor
reception to honor all of our contributors who were so generous to our
capital project. Some 175 people toured and enjoyed the splendor of our
new facility.
Our NEW Children’s Museum of Virginia officially reopened on May 26th
following a nineteen month renovation and expansion project. We are so
proud of our new facility and want to share it with all of Hampton Roads
and beyond. We are off to a great start with over 67,000 visitors in
June and July alone. Our single best day occurred on July 23rd with
2,075 visitors.
Heart of the Harbor, our “hometown” cookbook
has been a great fundraiser for the Portsmouth
Museums Foundation. Proceeds from the sales
benefited the renovation and expansion of the
Children’s Museum of Virginia and other museum
projects. Please see our website for retail sales
locations, phone the office at 393-8983 or visit
the cookbook table at Seawall Art Show.

Tile Project Decorates
Birthday Party Rooms
Beginning in August of 2010 Portsmouth Museums
Foundation introduced the “Create A Tile” project which
raised almost $6,000 for our NEW Children’s Museum of
Virginia. Children and adults from Hampton Roads and
beyond completed personal tiles which were fired by
Color Me Mine and installed by Ellenor Tile & Marble,
making a stunning display in our Birthday Party Rooms.
Mosaic Tile Company provided the supplies and travertine
border. These rooms are now available for birthday
parties. Phone 757-393-8983 for details.
