  • These beaches proudly display the blue flag eco-label, a sign of high quality unpolluted seawater. Take a stroll under the "Pergola da Foz" built in the 1930s. As the story goes, the Mayor of Portos wife at the time, had been so enchanted by the pergola of the "Promenade des Anglais in the French town of Nice that she simply had to have the same in Porto. Here it is called the "Praia dos Ingleses" a reminder that the English (and other British citizens!) have always enjoyed a close relationship with Portugal.

  • D.Henrique the Navigator, patron father of the Portuguese discoveries, was born in Porto. This prince organized a big fleet in Porto. This fleet went to join the one in Lisbon and together, they left to conquer the city of Ceuta in North Africa in 1415.

  • The name given to the people of Porto "Tripeiros" (tripe eaters) comes from that time, when the king asked the people of the city to give the sailors who left for North Africa everything they could and they gave all their food keeping only the tripes for themselves. That is why one of the city's most traditional dishes is "tripas moda do Porto". Arrbida Bridge, Douro river, 1963

They are crazy...I know, my love, that you, in fact, did not leavebecause, everything around me tells me that you are always with meYou are in the wind, which spreads sand on the glass (of the windows)You are in the water, that sings into the dying fireYou are in the warmth of the rest from empty seabedsYou are forever with me, into my heart/chest
