The family port shipping company, Feueheerd, was sold in the 1930s but La Rosa was kept and run by Sophia's grandmother, Claire. In 1988 Sophia and her father, Tim Bergqvist, decided to restart the family business and launched Quinta de la Rosa as a top quality port producer onto the market place. Starting in the early 1990s, the Bergqvist family were one of the pioneers in taking red wine production in the Douro region seriously. Quinta de la Rosa's red wine has won many accolades in the press and is sold in many prestigious restaurants and wine stores around the world. For the last 5 years, the Bergqvist family has also been making their Vale da Clara wine, buying in carefully selected grapes from nearby properties. The wine differs distinctly from the La Rosa wine produced - it has more fruit and less oak flavors.

Quinta de la Rosa’s reputation for excellent wines and ports come from: A superb location situated in the heart of the Alto Douro on the banks of the River Douro near Pinhão amongst some of the top quintas of the Douro (A-F as graded by the Casa Douro). La Rosa has a great diversity of ‘terroir’ and microclimate enabling the best blends to be made with vineyards of differing aspect and altitude. We have a variety of old and more newly planted vineyards—the oldest, Vale do Infernot was planted before the First World War. To make excellent wines, you need a leading winemaker. Unlike larger port shippers, everything is done on site at La Rosa (and nothing in Porto), from the growing and making through the storing and bottling, allowing full traceability of our products. We will always use the best option available to us, be it traditional or modern, when producing our wines, even if it is more costly, such as treading in granite lagares. The La Rosa team is dedicated to producing port, wine, and olive oil of the highest quality from the perfect setting on the banks of the River Douro. The tasting notes that follow are written by the Bergqvist family.

QQUUIINNTTAA DDEE LLAA RROOSSAA VVIINNTTAAGGEE PPOORRTT 22000077 Grape Varieties: Traditional port varieties, mainly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz, from the older dry stone terraced vineyards at La Rosa. Production Notes 2007 was an exceptional year for both port and wine in the Douro valley. Excellent metrological conditions allowed optimal maturation of the grapes giving intense, concentrated and well balanced wines with rounded and mature tannins. The winter/spring was very wet replenishing the water table and leaving much moisture in the soil. The grapes ripened slowly during a relatively cool but sunny summer. A hot start to September allowed the sugar levels to rise quite dramatically enabling us to pick in mid September. We knew it was likely to be a fully declared year when the grapes came into the adega (winery) in excellent condition and quality. The port was trodden by foot in granite lagares for three to four days with temperature control. Before doing this, we pulled off some free run juice (to make into Rosé) giving extra concentration to the final port. Maturation and bottling The more complex lotes of 2007 were kept for 18 months in wooden oak 25 pipe tonels before being blended. The port was bottled in June 2009. Tasting Notes The slow maturation of the grapes without any water stress over the summer months preserved the colour and produced fresh aromas and a balanced acidity to the wines. The port has enormous concentration of colour, great aromatic complexity, blackberry, blackcurrant and with a hint of mint flavours. On the palate, the port is very full bodied, with enveloping mature, ripe tannins and grip so that it will age well. 90 Points Wine Advocate Serving Suggestions:Digestif with cheese, chocolates or on its own Press 92-89 Wine Spectator “Cooked fruit aromas, with blackberry and cherry. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins, light sweetness and a tannic finish. This has an interesting structure. Needs to come together. But all there. Should be outstanding.” --James Suckling

QQUUIINNTTAA DDEE LLAA RROOSSAA 22000055 LLBBVV PPOORRTT Grape Varieties: Traditional port varieties, mainly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz from La Rosa’s A graded vineyards. Production Notes 2005 was a very dry year and, at the beginning of September, the grapes showed little concentration although they were apparently very ripe. The rain arrived just in time, during the first week of September, whilst we were preparing to pick which delayed the vintage by two weeks. This delay was ideal as it enabled the grapes to develop aromas and concentration that had been lacking before. As a result, 2005 is an excellent year with balance and equilibrium. The LBV 2005 port is made in the traditional manner trodden in granite lagares from grapes grown at Quinta de la Rosa. Some of the best port from that year is then kept back to make into our LBV. Maturation and bottling Our LBVs are matured in large wooden casks called ‘tonels’ in our own lodge for 4-6 years until ready for bottling. The 2005 LBV was bottled in 2009. Unlike most port shippers, all products are stored and bottled in the Douro (at La Rosa and not Porto), allowing full traceability and ensuring quality from grape to bottle. Tasting Notes The 2005 LBV is a classic, almost aristocratic, port. With a deep, lively violet color, it is an LBV with greater subtlety and less fat than normal. The port has an excellent structure, with equilibrium and definition. It has a wonderful length on the palate leaving the mouth with an impression of fresh woodland fruits and spices. Serving Suggestions This Port has not been filtered and might throw a light sediment but should not require decanting. Delicious with dessert, especially chocolate, cheese or on its own.

QQUUIINNTTAA DDEE LLAA RROOSSAA ‘‘TTOONNEELL 1122’’ TTEENN YYEEAARR TTAAWWNNYY PPOORRTT Grape Varieties: Traditional port varieties, mainly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz. Production Notes: The Port is made each year in the traditional manner, trodden in granite lagares from grapes grown at Quinta de la Rosa. Each year we keep back a small quantity of our best ports LBV quality and above. It is from these stocks that we blend our Tonel 12. This blending occurs on a regular basis to ensure that stocks are always fresh. For many years, before 1988, when they started selling port under the La Rosa brand, the Bergqvist family used to go down to 'Tonel 12' (a large 25 pipe barrel kept in the lodge under the house) and fill their decanter full of delicious ten year old tawny direct from the barrel. To this day they still refer to Tonel 12, instead of ten year old tawny, and decided to keep the name on the label. Maturation and Bottling: The port is stored in small (550 litre) oak casks or "pipes" and it is from this selection of fine old ports that we blend our Tonel 12, this blending occurs on a regular basis to ensure that stocks are always fresh. Unlike most port shippers, all products are stored and bottled in the Douro (at La Rosa and not Porto), allowing full traceability and ensuring quality from grape to bottle. Sales of this very popular port sometimes have to be limited if demands exceeds supply.

Tasting notes: It is a rich and elegant blend with wonderful aromas exuding the heat of the Douro. On the palate it is complex with powerful dried fruit, figs, honey and almonds with a long pleasing finish. It should be consumed within 2 to 3 years of bottling. Serving suggestion: Served chilled as an aperitif or to accompany fois gras or maybe with that special dessert or cheese. Best of all serve Tonel 12 on its own and savor the complexity and extraordinary flavours of such a wonderful port. This Port has been lightly filtered and does not require decanting.

QQUUIINNTTAA DDEE LLAA RROOSSAA LLOOTTEE 660011 RRUUBBYY PPOORRTT Grape Varieties: Traditional port varieties, mainly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz. Production Notes: Quinta de la Rosa's Ruby Port is unique in that it comes from A graded grapes all grown on the Quinta. Most other ruby blends come from further down the river nearer Regua where there is higher rainfall and most grapes are B to D quality so the resulting port tends to be less concentrated. Many customers told us that our ruby was too good to be called a ruby port' so we christened it with the name - Lote 601 - taken from lote or blending number we use for the ruby. Some of our ruby is still made in the traditional way - trodden in granite lagares. The Ruby is blended from our stocks of Port stored in large 'tonels' or vats to give a young, fruity, vibrant wine with an average age of 3-4 years. The blend will always have the same style from year to year. Unlike most port shippers, all products are stored and bottled in the Douro (at La Rosa and not Porto), allowing full traceability and ensuring quality from grape to bottle. Tasting notes: A Vintage Character style blended port of great quality and complexity. Showing beautiful deep ruby colour with plenty of forward fruit, full bodied with a long dry finish. The slight dry finish is typical of La Rosa's house style. Serving suggestion: This Port has been lightly filtered and does not require decanting, delicious with dessert or cheese.

QQUUIINNTTAA DDEE LLAA RROOSSAA TTAAWWNNYY PPOORRTT Grape Varieties:Traditional port varieties, mainly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz. Production notes: Quinta de la Rosa's Tawny Port is unique in that it comes from A graded grapes all grown on the Quinta. Most other tawny blends come from further down the river nearer Regua where there is higher rainfall and most grapes are B to D quality so the resulting port tends to be less concentrated. Some of our tawny is still made in the traditional way: trodden in granite lagares. Maturation and Bottling: This is a young tawny port, produced through rapid aging in small, old oak 550 litre pipes (or barrels) to give an aged appearance and flavour. It is blended from our

stocks of Port to give this young Tawny its characteristic style which will be the same from year to year. As with all La Rosa products, this Tawny is bottled at La Rosa, allowing us to ensure quality from grape to bottle. Unlike most port shippers, all products are stored and bottled in the Douro (at La Rosa and not Porto), allowing full traceability and ensuring quality from grape to bottle. Tasting notes: Our Tawny Port exhibits a nuttiness and a complexity not often found in these types of tawnies. Compared with the Ruby, the Tawny is much paler in colour and lighter in style. As always, La Rosa's house style is slightly drier at the finish than most. There should be no confusion between this Tawny port and our old fine 10 year "Tonel No 12". It should be consumed within 2 to 3 years of bottling. Serving suggestion: Good to drink chilled as an aperitif as well as after dinner. This Port has been lightly filtered and does not require decanting.

QQUUIINNTTAA DDEE LLAA RROOSSAA DDOOUURROOSSAA RREEDD Grape Varieties: Traditional port varieties, mainly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz. Production Notes It was cold and it rained when the vine was in flower in 2008 which meant the flower did not ´set´ so that there was a loss of production and the resulting yields were low. The following months, right up until the vintage time, were dry and relatively cool allowing for good heterogeneous ripening of the grapes. At the beginning of September, despite a mini heat wave (30C), the grapes were ripe enough to consider picking. We had perfect dry, sunny weather throughout most of the vintage - the forecasters had predicted rain! The meteorological conditions in 2008 with moderate temperatures in the summer resulted in a good, steady maturation of the grape. This gave the wines plenty of colour, good acidity and excellent aromas. Maturation and bottling Fermented in stainless steel vats at low temperatures to retain fruit and freshness. Bottled in April 2010. Tasting Notes The terroir in the Douro is still largely unexplored and by making wines with balance, harmony and equilibrium from our vineyards, we try to enable the grapes to express themselves in the bottle. The La Rosa style is to make well defined wines without too much extraction, tannin or oak. Wines that are rich and full bodied whilst being fresh and lively with a good acidity. The douROSA Red 2008 is similar in style to previous years but has more Touriga Nacional in the blend which gives it more volume and concentration. Plenty of cherry and black fruit flavours on the nose, the wine is perfect to drink with many different types of meals as it has a good equilibrium in tannins and acidity. Best Buy and 90 Points Wine & Spirits Serving Suggestions douROSA red is an easy drinking wine to be drunk now or within the next five years. It is a versatile wine that can be drunk slightly chilled at (15-16ºC) accompanied with lighter style food or drunk at a higher temperature (18ºC) with heavier dishes. Press:Untasted by the press so far. 2007 douROSA red was awarded 90 points Wine & Spirits April 2010

The 2008 has a dense, spectacular colour with profound flavours of dark berries with herbaceous undertones. There is plenty of richness and volume on the palate and mature tannins giving the wine an overall rounded, balanced flavour whilst maintaining its freshness. The wine has fantastic length, lingering on the palate. It is easy to say every year that the wine is the best ever but this year I do think Jorge has truly surpassed himself. 91 Points Wine & Spirits Serving Suggestions Being quite approachable as a young wine, it can either be drunk now or kept for up to 5 or so years. Serve at cellar temperatures, the 2007 is ideal with any meat dish or cheese.

casks before being bottled in April 2009. Tasting Notes The Reserve 2007 is a very intense yet refined wine. Extremely aromatic and concentrated, it manages to hold immense freshness which makes it appear very elegant and delicate. Firm tannins are well present enveloping sweet, seductive, ripe black cherry fruits. The wine is showing very well now despite an enormous potential for ageing. Serving Suggestions The wine would be best served with red meats and more powerful dishes. It also goes well with cheese, especially the Serra cheese found in Portugal. 94 Points Wine & Spirits, 92 pts WAdv

The Idea: Quinta das Bandeiras is a 100 hectare property located on the River Douro near Pocinho right opposite the famous Vale Meão. Until Vale Meão became well known in its own right, its grapes went into producing Barca Velha, the Vega Sicilia of Portugal. So Bandeiras´s location couldn’t have been more perfect. Bought by the Bergqvist family (Quinta de la Rosa), the wine is called PASSAGEM (the crossing) and is a joint venture between Jorge Moreira (wine maker) and the Bergqvist. Grape Varieties: Traditional port varieties, mainly Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. Production Notes 2006 was a cooler than 2005 with more rain than we have had for some years especially at the end of August and start of September. With the rain came hot temperatures that provoked a sudden ripening of the grape particularly noticeable on the lower as well as the more exposed slopes. By the middle of September temperatures dropped to help normalize the situation. Maturation and bottling The wine was matured in Allier French oak casks, mainly Francois Frères, Taransaud and Seguin Moreau, for 18 months before being bottled in 2007. It has been stored in bottle for six months before release so that the wine is in perfect drinking condition on reaching the market. Tasting Notes The wines from 2006 have less concentration than previous years so should be drunk a little younger. Passagem 2006 is similar to 2005 but is slightly more approachable and prettier in style. It is a very expressive, almost seductive, wine with obvious mature, dark cherry fruit flavours whilst retaining an attractive freshness. The style is characteristic of many Touriga based wines coming from the Douro Superior. On the palate, it is full of fruit and complexity. The wine has Jorge’s hallmark of elegance and finesse and he manages here to offer an excellent compromise between power and elegance.
