Observatory 14 POSEIDON PYLOS LOCATION
POSEIDON PYLOS
Observatory 14 POSEIDON PYLOS CHARACTERISTICS
• Located in the cross road of Adriatic and Eastern Mediterranean basins. Very geologically active area with lots of earthquakes and landslides as well as a potential source of Tsunamis that might affect the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
Observatory 14 POSEIDON PYLOS CHARACTERISTICS
• The POSEIDON PYLOS is carrying out – meteorological observations (Wind speed and direction,
temperature, pressure), – surface ocean (Wave height-period-direction, salinity,
temperature, current speed and direction), – ocean interior (Salinity, temperature at 20, 50, 75, 100, 250 400,
600, 1000m) – seafloor (Salinity, temperature, depth, dissolved oxygen). – Tsunami monitoring – PAL
POSEIDON PYLOS
is offered under TNA
It provides SA
Observatory 14 POSEIDON PYLOS DATA/SERVICES
Data from all the Pylos sensors are available in near real time through the ROOS Med data portal operated by HCMR (accessible through MyOcean & EMODNet)
Delayed mode data are also available in bi-monthly basis
Further data validation on T&S is performed twice a year by OGS through the Pylos data comparison with data from nearby platforms (Argo floats, XBTs, gliders) and/or climatology.
Historical time series for the whole operational period is also available
Observatory 14 POSEIDON PYLOS FUTURE PLANS
Planned activities for the next 4 years • 6 monthly service interval • Additional sensors on the bottom platform
– pCO2, – CH4, – turbidity – pH
• Additional sensors on the water column • Links with EMSO cabled deep sea bed
