Reserve Bank of Australia cuts official cash rate to record low 2% at May meeting… According to RateCity.com, Tuesday’s cash rate cut will equate to home loan rates dipping below 4 per cent this month, the lowest on record.

MARK MULLIGAN, The Sydney Morning Herald – May 5, 2015

Queensland is the most affordable first homebuyer property market on the eastern seaboard, with the average first-time buyer couple needing to save for 3.8 years to raise a 20 per cent deposit to buy a house.

This is lower than the national average of 4.1 years and the fourth shortest savings period of any state or territory, according to the sixth annual Bankwest First Time Buyer Deposit Report.

“The reality is a lot of people are moving to Brisbane.

“Brisbane is an international city; it is going to attract a lot of international migration and people coming here to take advantage of the value gap.

Brisbane hasn’t actually performed well over the last few decades; it’s had spurts, but it’s a curious scenario. I know there’s been floods and the dollar has impacted tourism, but overall it doesn’t feel right.”

McGrath said people who invested in real estate should take a 10-year view. “The Brisbane market is trending on a nice sustainable trajectory path,” he said.
