Position title: Facilities Maintenance/Janitorial Department: Operations & Facilities Reports to: Facilities Manager FLSA: Non-Exempt About the Redwood Empire Food Bank: The Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization serving north coastal California, from Sonoma County to the Oregon border. Since 1987, the REFB has provided food and nourishment to those facing hunger, currently serving 82,000 children, families and seniors in Sonoma County, while striving to end hunger in our community. The REFB collaborates with local and regional partners to obtain and distribute $40 million worth of food annually, the equivalent of 15 million meals annually, or more than 41,000 meals every day. Through more than 200 of our own direct service distributions and partnerships with 170 other hunger-relief organizations, we form a network of over 450 weekly and monthly distribution sites serving low- income residents in Sonoma, Lake, Mendocino, Humboldt, and Del Norte counties. Basic Purpose: The Facilities Maintenance/Janitorial position is responsible for keeping the building and outside yard organized, general cleaning assignments, and warehouse janitorial duties, as assigned. Working Relationships: As a member of the Operations Department, specifically the Facilities team, the Facilities Maintenance/Janitorial position works and interacts with employees in warehouse and oce environments. Duties: Perform organizational and cleaning tasks in the general oce, conference rooms, bathrooms and ancillary areas of the building. Perform organizational tasks in the outside yard, keeping the flow of pallets, bins, totes and carts clean and sanitized, ready for transporting of food, milk and produce. Operate powered equipment, including floor scrubber, pallet jacks, cardboard baler, and forklift, as necessary Collect, break down and organize cardboard and load same into hydraulic operated cardboard baler. Prepare and clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, rest rooms, stairways, parking lots and other work areas, and respond to accidental spills, as necessary. Monitor and order various cleaning products, supplies and parts and maintains required documentation. Communicate potential safety hazards, unsafe conditions, repairs needed to the Facilities Manager. Interface with REFB stamembers and visitors as necessary to assist and support. Perform other work related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions: Hours

• This is a full time position that will average 40 hours a week, five days a week.• Availability to work during the hours of 7:00am to 3:30pm, with some flexibility depending

on situations• Availability to work some Saturdays as necessary.• Willingness to work overtime as necessary.

Location • The duties of this position are performed within both an office and warehouse

environment, as well as in various areas within the facility.

Potential Hazards • The duties of this position are performed inside a warehouse around operating powered

equipment.• Cleaning fluids normally used in custodial duties.• Climbing ladders, operating power equipment, cardboard baler, scissor lift and floor

scrubber.

Qualifications: Knowledge

• Must have basic understanding of cleaning and sanitizing standards and how things workfacility-related.

• Reading, writing and speaking proficiency in English to understand verbal and writteninstructions and complete various documents.

• Demonstrated warehouse safety awareness and Cal OSHA safety training preferred.

Skills • Must be able to be trained on the safe operation of powered equipment (prior experience

suggested).• Must be organized and complete tasks in support of the day to day operation and project

plans.• Competent communication and interpersonal skills.• Must be customer service oriented.

Ability • Ability to perform job tasks in a safe manner at all times.• Ability to work independently, at the same time be team player.• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.• Ability to work effectively under pressure, and against strict time constraints.• Ability to understand and follow directions as given.• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Personal Characteristics • Flexibility to adapt to a potentially changing work environment.• Takes initiative to improve processes or services.

Physical Requirements: • Ability to push minimum 100 pounds (power cleaning appliances), ability to lift minimum

50 pounds

Required Education and Experience • High School diploma• Two years of experience in facility maintenance.• Basic understanding of cleaning practices, chemicals, time management and safety.• Valid California driver’s license.• Forklift certification training provided, and required prior to operating any powered

equipment.
