AT LAST HERE IT IS Well, it's been a long time coming, but at last it's arrived - the 1958

edition of the Graduates' Directory. Its publication represents a lot of blood, sweat and tears and, of course,

names, but it naturally couldn't have been accomplished without your coop­eration. The editorial board was pleased with the returns on the questionnaires sent out with the last assessment drive . It was these answers that made this directory possible.

As you scan the directory you may feel that there's room for improv­ement. We on The Postgrad staff may agree with you. Since this is our first venture into the directory field, we hope that you'll bear with us.

The task of compiling a directory of this type is a gigantic one. A university's alumni would seem to he the "movingest" group of people any­where - at least that's what it appears to us. We've double-checked names~ addresses etc. against our association's files. We've attempted to make correct­ions up to the last moment. The time lag between receipt of the completed questionnaires and the publication of the directory (it took months of planning) also left us open to a number of possible errors. I hope we'll be forgiven if there are any.

We would appreciate any member of the alUJDDi letting u s know of any errors. Please advise the alumni secretary, 1435 Drummond St., Montreal, and we'll make the corrections in our files

We hope to make this an annual effort. The association feels that these editions will help to bring our graduates closer together and give you an idea of what the other fellow's doing.

We're even looking forward to bringing out the next one - In the meantime we hope you'll enjoy glancing through this initial effort.

When the new Queen Elizabeth Hotel was being

built directly above his head o special problem arose.

How to erect this large steel structure without distrac•

ting noise so that railway operations co~ld be safely

continued . Dominion Bridge engineers, working close•

ly with C.N.R. officials, met the challenge. Riveting

was virtua lly eliminated and special field erection

procedures were evolved, using welding and bolting.

Once ogain steel provided its versatility in the solu•

tion of a pressing construction problem .
