Amoxicillin

• Generic Name: Amoxicillin

• Brand Name: Amoxil

• Classification: Antibiotic, penicillin

• Mode of action: Semisynthetic broad-spectrum penicillin closely related to

ampicillin. Binds to penicillin-binding proteins in the cytoplasmic membranes

of bacteria, thus inhibiting cell wall synthesis. Cell division and growth are

inhibited.

Cefazolin

•Generic Name: Cefaolin

•Brand Name: Cefaolin

• Classification: Cephalosporin, !st generation

• Mode of action: Binds to bacterial cell wall membrane, causing cell death.

Cefuroxime

• Generic Name: Cefuroxime

• Brand Name: Ceftin

• Classification: Cephalosporin, "nd generation

• Mode of action: Binds to bacterial cell wall membrane, causing cell death.

Ciprooxacin

• Generic Name: Ciprofloxacin

• Brand Name: Cipro oral suspension

• Classification: Antibiotic, fluoro#uinolone

• Mode of action: $nterferes with %&A gyrrase and topoisomerase $'. %&A

gyrase is an enyme needed for replication, transcription, and repair of

bacterial %&A.

Metronidazole

• Generic Name: (etronidaole

• Brand Name: )lagyl

• Classification: *richomonacide, amebicide

• Mode of action: +ffective against anaerobic bacteria and protooa.

Specifically inhibits growth of trichomonae and amoebae by binding to %&A,

resulting in loss of helical structure, strand breaage, inhibition of nucleic

acid synthesis, and cell death.

Penicillin

• Generic Name: enicillin

• Brand Name: ermapen

• Classification: Antibiotic, penicillin

• Mode of action: Binds to penicillin-binding proteins in the cytoplasmic

membranes of bacteria, thus inhibiting cell wall synthesis. Cell division and

growth are inhibited and often lysis and elongation of susceptible bacteria

occur.

 Tazobactam

• Generic Name: *aobactam

• Brand Name: osyn

• Classification:  Anti-infective, Beta-lactam antibiotic, antipseudomonal

penicillin

• Mode of action: $t is similar to other penicillins. $nterfere with bacterial cell

wall synthesis, causing cell death.
