After a hiatus of five years, the haze clears, and I can see my way clear to finish thispost.
Selwyn Dewdney's memoir suggests theorigin of its title, Daylight in the Swamp. Inthe Preface, his son Keewatin referencesthe title as "the last line of a highly ques-tionable bush poem". By "questionable" hemeans "off-colour". By bush poem, hemeans the following:
Let go your c--ks, and grab your socks,It's daylight in the swamp!
I heard that ditty more than sixty yearsago. One morning that summer, from mybunk in a coach on Canadian NationalRailways, my eyes popped open at thatrude wake-up call. Our group of highschool Air Cadets was travelling fromNorthern Ontario to the west coast toCamp Abbotsford, B.C. During those two
weeks, that ditty was burned into my mem-ory banks.
That ditty has a long and venerable history.Apparently, in the nineteenth century, it wassung out by camp cooks and bosses in thetall timber stands of Michigan and Wiscon-sin and Minnesota. At some point, militarytypes appropriated it, and soldiers andsailors and later, airmen, made it their ownwake-up call. More recently, to accommo-date gender fairness, women substituted "t--ts" for "c--ks".
Exactly when Selwyn, and later, his son, learned it, is questionable (meaning, there isno answer). It's unlikely that Selwyn, grow-ing up near Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, learned it as a kid, his father being an Angli-can minister and all. Attending college inToronto, Ontario, he may have heard it as afrat boy, even though he was a missionaryin training. Spending summers as a studentminister on Lac Seul, and making canoetrips to many rough camps, he was un-doubtedly exposed to rough language. Heeven canoed solo a couple of times to RedLake during the 1920s mining boom. Andlater, in Northern Ontario, as a traverse sur-veyor, he spent weeks at a time beyond thepale of civilization, and may have himselfuttered the lines to get his crew moving be-fore breakfast.

(NC) No one wants to be a victim of payment fraud. Yet al-most a quarter of Canadians say they have clicked on a linkthat resulted in a phishing scam, while 64 per cent havebeen tempted to click on a link they weren’t completely surewas safe.
When it comes to your money, there’s no shortage of tipsfor staying safe. Here are five reminders to help you stayprotected, whether you’re shopping online or in-store.
Choose debit. Your card number is only an identifier, so nobanking information is shared with the merchant when youmake a purchase. Plus, when it comes to going contactless,Interac Flash uses secure chip processing. That makes itnext to impossible to create counterfeit cards and protectsagainst fraudulent activities like skimming or electronicpickpocketing.
Your mobile wallet is secure. Just like your debit card num-ber is only an identifier in store, when debit is added to amobile wallet, financial information is substituted with atoken, which is a unique virtual account number that meansno financial information is stored or shared with the mer-chant. As an added layer of security, your mobile wallet isalso typically protected by Touch ID or passcode.
It’s okay to be suspicious. If you suspect anything unusualwhen using an ABM or point-of-sale terminal, do not use themachine but report it to your financial institution. Equally,if you’re unsure whether a phone call or email link request-ing money is legitimate, hang up or ignore the email untilyou can confirm the source.
Always keep your banking information private. Even whenusing Flash, you’ll be periodically prompted to validate thatyou are you by entering your PIN. Protect your PIN — don’tshare it with anyone and be sure to shield the PIN pad whenyou’re entering your number. Stay in control by checkingyour statements regularly to watch for any usual activity.

Like playing a game of chess, you may need to think through your next move carefully,Aquarius. It could be that your opponent is taking a long time to make the next move andyou're impatient. As a result, you may make your decision too hastily. Feel free to take asmuch time as you need. Your opponent may be thinking two or three moves ahead of youalready, so concentrate.
Come out of your shell today, Pisces. You'll notice that people are much more sensitiveto your feelings because they seem to be more emotional themselves. Communicationis likely to occur more through unspoken channels than traditional methods. Many wordscan be conveyed with a look, wink, or long hug. Let others know that you're listening tothem.
You may feel a bit restless because you know something is brewing but can't seem toget hold of it, Aries. This energy is like a river rushing beneath your feet while you standon a bridge. The water is tempting, yet you can't summon up the courage to jump in.Don't feel like you have to be a part of everything. Perhaps your destiny lies on the otherside of the bridge.
If you wake up this morning and want nothing more than to stay under the sheets and cud-dle a little longer, know that you aren't alone, Taurus. There is a sensitive warmth about theday that's making you feel vulnerable. Make sure to surround yourself with supportive peo-ple today. Harsh words are likely to cut more deeply than usual, making you wish you'd juststayed in bed all day.
You may find yourself taking the high road today, Gemini. It could be that you're like a birdsoaring above the landscape. As you fly, your partner is on the ground trying his or her bestto keep up. If you keep flying straight, you'll get lost and confused and may not find yourway back. Consider keeping your feet on the ground with your friend.
Today you'll feel as though your energy has come home, Cancer. Oftentimes, if youaren't feeling 100 percent yourself, you'll refuse to leave the house. Today you shouldfeel much better and ready to take on the world. Your emotions are in line with your ac-tions, and things should be crystal clear for you. You know the route you want to take. The path is obvious.
Your wacky personality will be appreciated today, Leo, but don't take it too far. Leave roomfor seriousness to enter the picture. There's a dreamy, cloudy sensation to the day thatmight make it difficult for you to concentrate on any one thing. If you pretend to know theanswer when you don't, you'll only serve to confuse the people around you. The truth willeventually be revealed.
You should try to feel at ease today, Virgo. Remember that inner peace is a big part of yourhealth. This can be achieved through reflection and a quiet review of where you are in life.Try not to focus too much on material things. Instead, concentrate more on your emotionalstate. Others are likely to feel more sensitive and weepy as well, so have them join you inthis exercise.
It may be hard to find answers today, Libra. It may also be hard for you to get your pointacross, especially since everyone's head is way up in the clouds. Don't be surprised if yourown head takes a trip up there as well. You're better off giving it a boost up there instead oftrying to force it back down to reality. Check things out from a different perspective.
This is your day, Scorpio. You may find that people gravitate to you for advice and support. They're apt to lower their guard and more openly accept things you believe in. Conversa-tions could lead to more spiritual topics and you could end up giving lessons on the meaningof life. Suddenly, the things you've been thinking are reaching a huge audience that's eagerto hear your words.
It's important for you to be extra cautious today, Sagittarius. Make sure you're calm and col-lected before you get behind the wheel of a car. Be sure to have a helmet on if you're ridingyour bike. Strong emotions that come up at this time are apt to trigger a physical responsethat could be quite powerful and even a bit violent. Be careful of such tendencies.
You may not want to openly admit something to someone today, Capricorn, even thoughyou know it's true. You're more than likely working to hide behind a barrier that has formedbetween you and a close loved one or family member. If you insist on behaving this way,you may want to consider why you even bother staying in the relationship in the first place.

RYAN & THE MOVIES- SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY -
Solo may not be necessary in its existence, but
ends up an entertaining entry. Despite switch-
ing directors during production, none of the
troubles are noticeable. Alden Ehrenreich does
a solid job as Han, adding his own take to the
role rather than simply impersonnating Harri-
son Ford. Same can be said for Donald Glover
as Lando, the standout performance. The plot
is very simple but it recognizes it by having the focus be on how and
whether he works well with others. Han’s relationship with Chewbacca
is nicely portrayed showing how they bonded so quickly. The effects are
a seamless showcase of practical and digital and Ron Howard brings
up a proper energy to the action. It doesn’t really add anything new to
the Star Wars universe, but manages to be fun.
