COLLEGEPrograms OfferedColleges (Community Colleges) offer shorter (2 3 year) diploma and certificate programs.

CertificateGenerally shorter than diploma courses (several weeks to a few months)

DiplomaSeveral months up to a 2 3 years. You can receive both a diploma and a degree in some study areas (ex. Nursing) however they are not the same. Generally degrees provide greater qualification and thus greater pay. MORE LINGO TO KNOW:Frosh:First year student at college/university.

MORE LINGO TO KNOW:Credit Hour:is the measure used to reflect the relative weight of a given course toward the fulfilment of appropriate program requirements. A weight of 1 credit hour normally means that the course meets for lectures one hour per week for the duration of a semester or two hours per week for the duration of a session. At Memorial University, unless otherwise indicated, a course normally has a credit value of 3 credit hours.
