General Admission Requirements for University in Ontario

• High School Diploma– all credit requirements met – see information in your package

– 40 hours of Community Service

– Literacy Test

• Grade 12 Academic English (ENG4U)

• 5 additional 12U/12M courses

• Certain programs may require additional Grade 12 University prerequisite courses as well as minimum averages

General Admission Requirements for College in Ontario

• High School Diploma– all credit requirements met – see information in your package

– 40 hours of Community Service

– Literacy Test

• Highly Competitive Programs often have specific prerequisite courses at the Grade 11 & 12 level.

• Bachelor Degree programs offered at colleges will still require U or M level courses at the Gr. 12 level.

U.S. & Beyond• Planning to attend Post-Secondary education in the U.S. &

beyond will require additional research

• Your Grade 11 year is the time to start taking SAT/ACTs, investigating schools of interest and visiting

• LPCI Guidance deadline for U.S. applications is December 1 (but you should give us a heads up well before this) – this allows sufficient time to process applications.

• www.collegeboard.org provides a clearing house of information about SAT test dates, colleges and universities in the U.S. as well as the application system

2. Sign up for and Read Grad e-mail from Guidance Office

• Fall visits to LP & Winter information evening

2. Provide support throughout the application process

• present fall information session for all graduating students

• Serve as a reference centre

• Post secondary materials for research and planning

• Support scholarship applications

The role of the family

1. Encourage students to…• be aware of and meet deadlines• have a balanced lifestyle of school, family and social involvement• take an active and responsible role in planning for their own future

2. Support students • visit campuses • attend information sessions• make wise decisions that meet students’ personal needs• actively listen with an open mind when discussing possible choices• foster resilience so that students develop skills that help them cope with the

• Go to Ontario University Application Centre (www.ouac.on.ca) • Out of Province OUAC links with the following institutions: Bishop’s,

UBC, Concordia, Dalhousie, McGill, Simon Fraser and U. Victoria. You must still apply directly to these institutions

• Students apply on-line between early December and early January• PIN codes are distributed by Guidance

• Use the PIN to set up an account with the OUAC

• Guidance will offer assemblies and information sessions to students to assist them in understanding the application process

• Deadline mid-January 2013• Modifications to your choices may be made after this date
