Poster AnalysisThis PowerPoint looks at posters in more detail with an analysis focusing on just one poster distinct to different

music artists rather than looking at a selection of posters as a whole!

Page 2: Poster Analysis

Lady Gaga- Lady Gaga is depicted in front of a very light

background, this emphasises how white her own hair is, however the red lipstick which she wears contrasts against this colour scheme showing her femininity and female audience in which she has

- Her body language suggests she is a dancer and hints about her music talents

- Professional photography has been used and she is the main focus of the image

- The pink top which she wears is very dynamic like many of the clothes she wears fitting into the stereotypes

- Medium close up allows the audience to visualise the mise en scene aspects including her facial expression; this however takes advantage of her appearance by using it to sell posters such as these

- Her body language is quite creative much like her own music

- She is changing the way of pop culture through many ways such as her bizarre fashion, however this picture suggests otherwise and is quite conventional for a female singer yet her red lipstick gives the impression that her courageous personality is still there

Page 3: Poster Analysis

Black Eyed Peas- The background appears to be like a studio set design, it

appears to be made with graphics also due to the background which is similar to large pixel shapes; this conveys how they are a modern band

- Their clothing is mainly in black, other than one wearing a white shirt, this could say how they are quite rebellious and have a ‘dark side’ which also could be referred to as their music which is hip hop rather than the more fun pop by other bands for example ‘Alphabeat’

- Their body language appears as though it has frozen in time and that they are in the middle of dance reinforcing their musical connotations

- The main title: Black Eyed Peas, is in block capital letters declaring their importance, the logo is made more exclusive with the lighting strikes carrying down from two letters, this could mean their shocking music, shocking styles or personalities which are hence more striking than other music artists.

- They are all looking at the camera showing how they are under the spotlight and are the performers

Page 4: Poster Analysis

Michael Jackson- This is a poster to advertise Michael Jackson after

he passed away to celebrate his music

- The white background represents how something which was there is now lost, it seems quite lonely yet allows the quotations and title of Michael Jackson stand out emphasising it

- Jackson himself is situation against the white block background allowing him to stand out, he is wearing his signature clothing where people will remember his past tours and music videos

- The signature which is copied onto the posters makes it more meaningful as though the quotation is written to the public themselves

- The fonts used are less striking but small showing the delicacy of everything written

- The quotation written affects everybody and therefore this poster is effective as all the public can relate to it and therefore relate to Michael Jackson himself.

Page 5: Poster Analysis

U2- This is one of the old posters from U2, the black top

and bottom strips suggest that the album is a classic with the gold detail also

- The fonts for U2 and ‘The Joshua Tree’ contrasts against the black background allowing it to stand out and catch attention from the audience

- U2 is written below also with a logo for the album, this shows intertextuality as the public will recognise simple characteristics such as these from other promotional items

- The main photograph is in black and white which is modern fitting in with today's society, it also appears artistic with the natural environment behind depicting the beauty

- There is a medium close up on all band members, the main vocal singer Bono is at the front signifying his importance to the band, he is also looking away suggesting that people should know what he looks like anyway

- All the facial expressions are the same showing how they are working together in a band

Page 6: Poster Analysis

Kerri Hilson

- It is clear here that there is a colour scheme, her bikini top matches with the blue typeface which is vertically placed for interest and her newly designed hair highlights is emphasised by her gold leaf necklace (which is in fashion showing her influence and also how the poster is modern).

- ‘SONG OF SUMMER’ with Keri Hilson written below shows how it is fashionable to listen to her music and also depicts her success which she has gained in the music industry

- The background is slightly darker one side than the other which is creative but also shows how the poster has been made professionally

- A website is written below in bold white allowing it to stand out, this gives the public the ability to do some research on her finding more out as well as this there is intertextuality throughout where people can become more familiarised with aspects of her promotional products

- Medium close up to establish the facial expressions and mise en scene aspects e.g. clothing

Page 7: Poster Analysis

Christina Aguilera- The white background allows Aguilera herself to stand

out- The writing either side of her is in small print but is

feminine which is good considering her main target audience is females

- The text of ‘stripped’ which is the title of her album appears as though it is hand written giving the impression as though this album is personal and important to her

- The long shot allows the public to visualise all aspects of her and the mise en scene characteristics such as her clothing

- The fact that her hair is covering her where she would conventionally be wearing a top shows how she is a sex symbol to the male audience

- The body language gives connotations of dancing interlinking to her musical profession

- Because she is looking away there is a level of mystery about her where the public do not know as much as they thought which catches attention and is unique

Page 8: Poster Analysis

Arctic Monkeys

- This poster has a different approach from the others and is quite humorous and quirky much like them as a band

- The poster shows evidence of graphics and technology stating how they are a recent band

- The background is quite simple, yet suggests that the band is young which this childish effect and therefore the target audience is immediately defined as being young

- There is an obvious colour scheme and because of how simple it is, the audience can easily remember characteristics of this promotional item

- Minor aspects such as the monkey having grey hair, wearing a shirt and trying to eat an ice cream in the cold reinforces the idea that the band is young, but the image is unique and fascinating, it catches attention because it is not stereotypical

- The small print below the title of the band shows how they are a music band and advertises them further where people can then go and watch them etc.

Page 9: Poster Analysis

Nickelback- Three images have been merged for this poster, this is

interesting and will catch the publics attention as they observe each one

- There classic signature font has been used to state ‘Nickelback’ which is also is block capitals showing how they are important

- Below in the same font is the title of their album which gives the evidence for intertextuality where many fans will refer back to the album and CD covers.

- The images of cars suggests that the music is very upbeat and fast yet their clothing which is quite dark and dank gives connotations of their music being Rock which is accurate

- The car symbolises how they are on tour and by them looking directly at the camera allows the public and fans to feel privileged to follow them and watch them also

- The clothing in which they are wearing is similar to what they wear on all CD covers and posters including their music videos stating the intertextuality between all the products
