Capability ManagementCapability development and management in large

organisations, such as Deence involves signicant

capital expenditure and includes the scanningand identication o technologies, equipment and

    systems, technology development, contracting and

    acquisition, and organisational change. Strong

managerial and technical skills and expertise are

required to manage this systems capability lie cycle

eectively. Capability development is also a technical

    and management challenge or non-Deence

    organisations.

    The Capability Management program addresses

this challenge and is directed toward developing

a thorough understanding o the managerial and

technical skills and expertise relevant to planning

and acquisition o complex technology and systems.

Its primary, but not exclusive, ocus is in the area o

Deence. This is a cross disciplinary postgraduate

program or managers and proessionals working

in this eld. It brings together an engineering

perspective in system design and project

management and a management perspective in

    strategy and process management.

The importance o skills in capability management

stretch across the Deence por tolio, including the

Deence Materiel Organisation (DMO), the CapabilityDevelopment Group (CDG) and the Chie Inormation

Ocer Group (CIOG), as well as deence industry

organisations. The breadth o the program will

also make it attractive or other large organisations

    including Australian Government agencies.

The program aims to develop a thorough

understanding o the skills and expertise relevant

to planning and acquisition o complex technology

and systems. This can be targeted, by appropriate

selection o courses, toward complex military

systems and procurement o deence materiel, but

the program structure also allows the developmento abilities relating more generally to capability

    development and organisational change.
