Having always steered away from clear aligners
and only stuck with fixed braces, I’ve finally
decided to give aligners a go this year. BOSS is
extremely practical, informative and backed up
by heaps of research. Dr. V is a great mentor,
she’s always helpful and truthful. The team at
BOSS and CCC smiles are just amazing, always
there to help you whenever you need, even if
it was a question that’s been repetitively asked
many many times. I would highly recommend
BOSS to anyone who wishes to start their
journey in digital orthodontics. With Dr. V and
her team behind me, my confidence level is
soooo much higher and I feel like I am delivering
my treatment to a higher standard and overall
making me a better clinician. Thank you Dr. V!!

CASE STUDIESFROM BOSS PAST ATTENDEES
This patient used to be a thumb sucker and continued right on through till she turned 11. Her mother wanted
to restore her daughter’s confidence and 6 months into treatment with Invisalign aligners has already got her
grinning from ear to ear. She’s got a way to go still, but what a dramatic result so far! Dr Annem said ‘I’m really
enjoying the impact BOSS has had on my treatment for kids!’
Congratulations to Dr Luca for this well executed and finished case correcting
an anterior crossbite of 16 year old with clear aligners in just 6 months! Well
done on improving your orthodontic photography techniques at the end as
well. Dr Luca is an avid learner of dentistry and we were glad to support his
entry into orthodontics with BOSS courses. Join our 2020 Postgraduate
Diploma in Digital Orthodontics and get going with impeccable treatments for
your aligner patients!
Adult case treated with Invisalign. Treatment plan was to
distalise upper left quadrant to allow upper left canine eruption.
No TADs were required. Evidence shows that aligners are very
predictable when moving upper molars bodily by 2-3mm. Be
careful you don’t use TADs unnecessarily, be a biologically
sensitive practitioner and understand evidence-based Clear
Aligner Biomechanics.

INVESTMENTRAVING REVIEW FROM PAST ATTENDEE
I have just attended the BOSS weekend in Melbourne and it was so good . Dr Vandana is a wonderful speaker, so down to earth and humble and honest. She shares, as she calls it, the good the bad and the ugly and really shows you what you need to know clinically without making you feel intimidated. She inspires confidence while at the same time helping you to understand your limitations. Crawl, walk, run. Wise words indeed. Thank you Dr Vandana.

Dr Katyal shares so much of her own protocol and is extremely generous not only with her time but with the well thought out information she provides along with the course such as inventory lists, marketing material and case presentation templates. She tailors her advice to your own experience and helps with appropriate case selection, points out possible pitfalls and helps you understand how to overcome them. The course is also up-to-date using the latest technologies in orthodontics and is heavily evidence-based.
I would recommend it to anyone wanting to start doing some orthodontic treatment or looking for a more comprehensive course to assist in some ortho they are already doing.

FAQ’SWhat is digital orthodontics? The dental world is very quickly becoming digital and clear aligners are digital orthodontics, overtaking fixed braces, which will be obsolete in years to come. Treatments are planned on the computer, predicted in advance and the next step is to have your treatments monitored remotely using the very latest in dental technology.
Why is BOSS for me?As the dental world becomes more digital, the education has to move with the times in the same way to keep up. GP’s don’t have the same training as orthodontists and as a result we need to bridge that gap. BOSS teaches you everything you need to succeed in the new era of digital orthodontics, and is the only orthodontic diploma focusing on this in Australia.
Who is suitable for the Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Orthodontics?Anyone who is involved with, or has an interest in orthodontics.
I have no orthodontic experience, is the diploma right for me?Absolutely, we all have to start somewhere, and this is the place to learn. Some of our students have been fresh graduates, and some have been practicing orthodontics for many years.
I can’t make one of the dates, what happens? The diploma involves three days of lectures in Sydney, multiple webinars, one to one coaching with Dr Vandana Katyal, and the in-office program where you get to come into the beautiful CCC Smiles to see everything put into practice. However, as we are teaching digital, we embrace digital, so if you’re not able to make any of our dates, we record it and you can watch in the comfort of your own surroundings.
How much CPD is involved?80 hours of CPD is available
I have no accreditation from a clear aligner company, does this matter? Not at all, but we recommend getting this sorted soon as you will need this to treat your patients.

SILVER SPONSORS BRONZE SPONSORS
I joined BOSS in 2018 for the full year, and the wealth of knowledge that Vandana shares is immeasurable! This course is perfect for absolute beginners and also those with more experience, and Vandana caters it perfectly for the whole group. All her information is evidence based and very relatable for general dentists, giving you information that those “generic” 1-3 day clear aligner courses cannot give you. BOSS is a very comprehensive course. I highly recommend it, I plan to join BOSS again!

RAVING REVIEW FROM AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST MAGAZINE ABOUT BOSS
CATEGORY
16 AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST
Dentists are raving about an orthodontics seminar recently hosted
in Sydney and Melbourne by highly awarded and widely published researcher and specialist orthodontist, Dr Vandana Katyal.
The BOSS course (Best Orthodontic Seminars & Sessions) is one in a series of ‘how to’ courses in understanding and practising orthodontics in the dental setting, designed to up-skill dentists wanting to provide basic orthodontic treatments for their patients.
At the outset Dr Katyal set out to provide unbiased information on appropriate and sound interventions, using on evidence-based advice and not to promote particular techniques.
She is concerned at the trend where some orthodontic product manufacturers overseas are providing ‘clinical’ training in orthodontics to promote their products to dentists.
“There is also talk of ‘DIY orthodontics’ in the United States where patients ‘self diagnose’ and treat their own orthodontic conditions by buying appliances online without a professional diagnosis or treatment plan – in the same way they could buy a potentially harmful teeth whitening product for home use in Australia,” Dr Katyal said.
Dr Katyal has devised the BOSS series to ‘pay forward’ the tremendous insights she was afforded by orthodontics and dental professionals during her research studies, and to help mentor those wanting to increase their knowledge and experience in orthodontics.
The BOSS course includes detailed clinical case presentations from specialists, hands-on practical sessions on bonding and installing orthodontic appliances and outlines how to perform appropriate interventions depending on the complexity of the case, chances of successful outcomes and the long-term best interests of the patients.
Importantly, the BOSS course also alerts dentists how to identify and refer on complex cases to orthodontists and other dental professionals, and is also up-front in showing what can go wrong in orthodontic interventions.
Other specialists in the area of endo-dontics, prosthodontics and paediatric dentistry joined Dr Katyal during the two-day courses to share their insights of paediatric cases, growth prediction,
malocclusion, dental trauma and the lat-est in oral appliances.
Course participants were full of praise for the excellent balance of in-depth theoretical and practical sessions, including the detailed clinical case studies presented by Dr Katyal and the guest speakers, Dr Mehdi Rahimi, Dr Jad Clarke and Dr Mark Johnstone.
A notable aspect of the BOSS course compared to other types of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminars was the small group size, which allowed plenty of one-on-one attention and also enabled questions to be answered and information to be tailored to individuals.
Course participants said they found the information very easy to absorb and that it gave them confidence to apply what they learned during the course in their own dental settings afterwards.
While it enjoys some sponsorship support, another significant aspect of the BOSS course is that is not directly aligned with ny dental suppliers and does not actively promote a particular brand of equipment, type of treatment or orthodontic appliance.
NSW south coast dentist, Dr Wen Chao Liu, said he found the input by Dr Katyal and the experiences shared by the specialist speakers very valuable and relevant to his work.
“I found Vandana’s ‘helpful tips and tricks’ that she has accumulated during her years of work particularly useful and Vandana also offered ongoing support and mentoring and is generally very quick in answering follow-up enquiries.
“A variety of techniques were presented, including ones not commonly practiced in Australia. I have already put into daily practice some of the techniques that were taught to us.”
Dr Liu added that the course has given him increased confidence in presenting his
treatment plan to patients: “I’ve learned to individualise treatments to each patient to achieve an outcome that is in the best interest of the patient.”
Dr Liu also appreciated the fact that the course was not openly promoting a particular product like others he had attended. “Although there were sponsors, no specific supplier or product was ever pushed on us during the course and we didn’t only see ‘perfect’ outcomes in every case, but some of the actual challenges you face performing orthodontic treatments,” Dr Liu said.
Sydney dentist, Dr Allison Chiu from Erskine Park Dental in Western Sydney, agreed, saying some of the things she learned had either reinforced or challenged her previous beliefs.
“I have been practicing orthodontics in my GP practice for over three years now and found the specialists’ presentations and practical sessions particularly useful and very relevant to every day practice.
“For example, the ‘photo taking’ workshop is not just good for orthodontics, but for general documentation. Also the wire bending takes a lot of practice to get it perfect and the ClinCheck® software is something you must master if you want to venture into Invisalign® treatments.”
She also found the session by Endodontist, Dr Mark Johnstone, about the informed consent process relevant for all areas when treating complex cases, not just orthodontics.
“Overall the new knowledge makes me feel more confident practising orthodontics so I can help more patients,” Dr Chiu said. u

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT THE BOSS COURSES
I have been attending BOSS Courses since early 2016, and am so pleased to have found Vandana and her team! As Orthodontics is such a vast study in itself, BOSS breaks it down into practical and easy to understand concepts, which allows you to become more aware of the orthodontic status of all your patients. I have found so much confidence in being able to deliver orthodontic treatment to my patients after attending BOSS. If you’re someone who hasn’t done any orthodontics and are looking for starter courses, this course is fantastic. It is also a great opportunity for those who have had orthodontic experience in the past (like myself) to enhance, grow and learn more!
I completed course 2 on clear aligners with Dr. Vandana Katyal this weekend in Melbourne. Having completed the initial Invisalign training course I was really excited to start, but didn’t feel confident in selecting cases or how to critique the Clinchecks. Dr. Vandana’s BOSS course gave me a much better insight into clear aligner systems, what they’re good at and what they’re not so good at. The biomechanics section was particularly useful, and she went over a lot of troubleshooting which I had no idea about previously. Would highly recommend course 2 for anyone starting out with invisalign or other clear aligners!
Dr Radhika Singh, SydneyDr James Zvirblis, Dentist NSW
I attended all the BOSS Courses in 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. All the information presented was concise, engaging and most importantly evidence-based. Dr V was not only so generous with all the tips and experience she passed on during the course but was always available to help out in any way she could. The whole BOSS team made sure everything ran perfectly and were on top of everything. A very well run and valuable course for any dentists looking to learn more about ortho. Can’t wait to continue on next year with BOSS 2019!
