DESCRIPTION

David Bohm on how delusion arises when we are not sensitive to incoherence.

TRANSCRIPT

  • 1. We cannot grasp the totality

2. but we can have a feeling for the whole. 3. We can have the attitude 4. of not restricting ourselvesto parts, 5. but to allowing our consciousness 6. to be based on the whole 7. of whatever we can experience. 8. Turn to the whole of reality 9. as far as we can 10. and go from there to the parts. 11. The parts are seen withinthe whole 12. rather than begin withthe parts 13. and put them togetherlike a machine. 14. We have to be sensitive 15. to incoherence. 16. Delusion arises 17. when we are not sensitiveto incoherence. 18. When we overlook it. 19. If anybody claims to have evidence 20. it is always limited 21. and you can't trust it either. 22. So there is no guarantee at all. 23. We can't trust anybody 24. to tell us about these things. 25. We have a tremendous resistence 26. to acknowledge incoherence. 27. People are constantly saying 28. that 'everything is alright' 29. 'there is nothing to worry about' 30. 'this is all very coherent' 31. So the keypoint is, 32. to attent to incoherence, 33. first acknowledge it 34. and then to do something about it. 35. Incoherence has become more dangerous 36. because of the scale 37. of our society 38. and because of technology. 39. We have all sorts of dangers 40. which are brought about 41. by our power. 42. The greater power we have, 43. the greater we needcoherence.
