Power BI’s bookmark feature allows you to create an unlimited number of virtual pages to which the user can navigate. It is a truly game-changing feature which enables report-creators to design narrative-based reports tailored to a particular audience. This course will show you how to leverage Power BI’s Bookmarks and Selection panes to add interactivity to your business narratives.

You will learn how to create a web-style navigation bar complete with hidden buttons which hyperlink to your bookmark content; and how to use the Selection pane to create slicers which control the user experience, but which remain completely hidden from the user.

The course discusses the building of an interactive Power BI report from the ground up. We start by discussing the page itself; its shape, its dimensions and how you can use page backgrounds to add impact to your reports. We also discuss the use of a percentage-based grid and the creation of placeholders as an aid to report design.

No substantial Power BI report can be built without some degree of data wrangling; therefore this course also provides users with further practice on creating DAX formulas using key functions such as CALCULATE, FILTER, ALL and VALUES.

We also discuss the benefits of using unlinked, disconnected tables to store narrative data; and the DAX measures required to retrieve data from unlinked tables, based on user actions. In short, if you are looking to quickly get up to speed on the benefits provided by Power BI’s Bookmarks and Selection panes, this is the only course you will need.

Power BI Sales Pipeline Analytics and Visualization is a practical hands-on course, designed to give experienced Power BI users further practice on data modelling and report creation.

The course begins with data preparation. We connect to our data, perform basic transformations and import an External Date Table which we then map to the dates in our main fact table.

We then set up relationships between our various tables. However, since we are dealing with a sales pipeline, we have a main fact table which contains multiple significant dates, as we track the progress of each lead from the contact stage, right through to sales.

This course will show you how to establish multiple relationships between the same two tables and then use DAX to activate the appropriate relationship as you perform calculations.

And the course provides plenty of additional practice in creating DAX measures.

Then we turn our attention to visualizing our data. We look at using the funnel visual, as well as displaying a hierarchy of images in slicers which enable the user to track the performance of sales managers as well as individual salespeople.

We also look at a useful technique for creating a chart which only becomes visible when a slicer selection is made by the user.

In short, this course will provide Power BI users who are familiar with the basics, with a challenging, hands-on workshop which will expand their familiarity with data modelling, visualization and report creation.

Formulas and functions are at the core Microsoft Excel and learning to use them effectively is an essential step in becoming proficient in Excel. This course provides clear and easy-to-follow instructions on how to build formulas for analysis, projection and data cleansing.

The course starts by discussing all of the different components that can be used to create a formula. You will be given clear demonstrations of the use of relative, mixed and absolute references, the use of dollar signs and how to name cell ranges to add clarity to your formulas.

Naturally, Excel functions are discussed in depth and many examples of using functions to analyze your data, beginning with every day functions like SUM, AVERAGE, MIN and MAX.

We then examine the use of text functions to clean up data prior to creating reports; functions like TRIM, UPPER, LOWER, PROPER, LEFT, RIGHT, MID and CONCATENATE.

Next, we turn our attention to conditional functions like IF, IFERROR, AND and OR. These functions allow you to make the value displayed in a cell dependent on the results of logical tests.

We then see how conditional functions can be combined with mathematical functions; using COUNTIF and SUMIF to produce calculations which only include those cells which match certain criteria.

And, naturally, no discussion of Excel functions would be complete without lookup functions. We discuss the use of VLOOKUP and, also, how the INDEX and MATCH functions can be used to lookup up data whose format makes the use of VLOOKUP impossible.

When you have completed this course, you will feel more confident about creating your own Excel formulas and taking advantage of Excel’s wide variety of powerful functions.

The ability to write, understand and maintain complex formulas is the key to mastering Excel. Complex formulas make use of multiple functions to achieve a specific operation; and it is the need to nest one function inside another that can sometimes make Excel formulas seem so impenetrable. This course will show you how to create, comprehend and maintain complex Excel formulas; those which use multiple Excel functions in combination.

A key feature of the course is the use of explanatory diagrams. The course features dozens of diagrams saved in PDF format. You will have access to all of these diagrams. You can study them at your leisure. You can print them out; make notes on them; whatever you find useful.

We begin the course by looking at conditional functions, since these are the most versatile of Excel’s functions. Then we’ move on to look at building formulas for manipulating text; for manipulating numbers; formulas for performing complex lookup operations. And we’ll also discuss the use of array formulas; as well as formulas for importing XML-based information into Excel, both from the web and from local XML documents.

And finally, we’ll move on to look at the creation of custom, user-defined functions using VBA. These functions can be included in any workbook and can greatly enhance your Excel solutions.

We focus on writing VBA functions which provide results that simply can’t be produced using Excel’s own built-in functions: for example displaying the user’s Windows login name, or the names of all the worksheet tabs; or displaying information from the folder in which a workbook is saved.

So, if you’re looking for a challenging course which will provide you with strategies for creating powerful and complex Excel formulas, this course is exactly the course you need.

Microsoft Excel is a very XML aware application, featuring not only XML, but also XPath and XSLT capabilities; and this intermediate/advanced Excel course explains all of Excel’s XML-related features in depth. The course assumes a good familiarity with Microsoft Excel and the use of Excel formulas. However, no knowledge of XML, or its related technologies, is assumed.

The course begins with an overview of the nature of XML and itemizes the different objects which can form part of an XML document. This introductory section also explains the use of DTDs and schema documents to validate XML.

We then move on to look at the importing and exporting of data into and out of Microsoft Excel. We discuss the creation of XML maps and how they relate to XML tables, as well as the validation of XML data, using schema documents, both on import and export.

Next, we explore online XML, as we use Excel’s WEBSERVICE, FILTERXML and ENCODEURL functions to download XML data from online web services and use XPath statements to extract the information we want from the downloaded XML.

Although FILTERXML and its XPath statements are designed to work only with online web services, this course will show you a crafty workaround which will enable you to use this function to extract data from your local XML documents as well.

The final section of this course is given over to an XML capability which is well hidden in Microsoft Excel, namely the ability to transform XML as you import it by using XSL stylesheets. The course provides an overview of how XSL sheets are constructed and how XPath is used within stylesheets to target the different parts of the input XML document which you want to transform and include in the output.

In short, whatever Excel XML workflows you are faced with, this course will equip you to deal with them confidently and efficiently.
