What is Power Factor?• All induction loads require 2 kinds of power: reactive (non-working) and active

(working). The two types of power combine to produce apparent power which is used to power your appliances.

• Induction loads require reactive power to establish the EMF (electromagnetic field) around induction windings. The EMF provides the torque necessary to turn the motor shaft. Without reactive power the motor would not run.

• Power factor represents the effectively consumed power. A higher power factor represents more effective use of electrical consumption.
