JANUARY

According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

New Year's Day is observed on January 1, the first day of the year on the modern Gregorian Calendar as well as the Julian calendar used in ancient Rome. With most countries using the Gregorian calendar as their main calendar, New Year's Day is the closest thing to being the world's only truly global public holiday.

FEBRUARYAccording to holidayinsights.com:

Valentine's Day is a celebration of love and lovers. The roots of Valentine's Day goes back to ancient times, when people paid honor to the Roman God of Fertility. This was known as the Feast of Lupercalia, and was celebrated even then on February 14th.

According to history.com:St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17, the saint's religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. On St. Patrick's Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon

According to Holiday Smart web site: Earth Day is a global holiday celebrated as a day to bring awareness and appreciation for the Earth and it's environment. It is celebrated internationally on the first day of Spring in March, usually on March 20th or 21st and in some places on April 22nd.

MAYAccording to www.usmemorialday.org:Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan.

Flag Day is said to have first been celebrated way back on June 14, 1885, when schoolteacher B.J. Cigrand had his class celebrate the flag’s birthday. It was officially declared a holiday by President Harry Truman in 1949.

JulyAccording to Census.gov:On this day in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress, setting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation. As always, this most American of holidays will be marked by parades, fireworks and backyard barbecues across the country
