1. Introduction

Important! When using equipment, a few safetyprecautions must be observed to avoid injuriesand damage. Please read the completeoperating manual with due care. Keep thismanual in a safe place, so that the informationis available at all times. If you give theequipment to any other person, give themthese operating instructions as well.We accept no liability for damage or accidentswhich arise due to non-observance of theseinstructions and the safety information.

2. Safety regulations

General safety instructions for electrictools CAUTION!Read all safety regulations andinstructions.Any errors made in following the safetyregulations and instructions may result in anelectric shock, fire and/or serious injury.Keep all safety regulations and instructionsin a safe place for future use.

The term “electric tool” used in the safetyregulations refers to electric tools operated fromthe mains power supply (with a power cable)and to battery operated electric tools (without apower cable).

1. Workplace safety Keep your work area clean and well

illuminated. Untidy or unlit work areas canresult in accidents.

Do not use this tool in a potentiallyexplosive environment containingcombustible liquids, gases or dust.Electric tools generate sparks, which can inturn ignite dust or vapors.

Keep children and other persons awayfrom the electric tool while it is beingused.Allowing yourself to get distracted can

cause you to lose control of the tool.

2. ELECTRICAL SAFETY The tool’s connector plug must be able

to fit into the socket outlet. Do notmodify the plug in any way! Do not useadapter plugs in conjunction withelectrically grounded tools.Unmodified plugs and matching socketoutlets reduce the risk of an electric shock.

Avoid touching grounded surfaces, such as those of pipes/tubes, heaters, cookers and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of getting anelectric shock if you are electricallygrounded.

Keep the tool away from rain andmoisture/wet conditions.Penetration of water into an electric toolincreases the risk of an electric shock.

Do not use the cable to carry the tool, hang it up or pull the plug out of thesocket. Keep the cable away fromsources of heat, oil, sharp edges andmoving tool parts.Damaged or tangled cable increases therisk of an electric shock.

If you intend to use an electric tooloutdoors, ensure that you only useextension cable that is approved foroutdoor applications.Using extension cable that is approved foroutdoor applications reduces the risk of anelectric shock.

If operation of the electric tool in adamp environment can not be avoided, use a earth-leakage circuit-breaker. The earth-leakage circuit-breaker reducesthe risk of an electric shock.

3. PERSONAL SAFETY Be alert, work conscientiously and

exercise appropriate caution whenusing the electric tool. Do not use thetool if you are tired or are under theinfluence of drugs/medication oralcohol. One moment of carelessness or lack ofattention when using the electric tool cancause serious bodily injury!

Always wear personal protectiveequipment (PPE), including safetygoggles.Wearing personal protective equipmentsuch as a dust mask, non-slip footwear, protective headgear and ear muffs(depending upon the type of electric tooland the particular application) reduces therisk of sustaining injury.

Make sure that the tool cannot start upaccidentally. Ensure that the electrictool is switched off before you connectthe tool to the power supply and/orinsert the battery, or pick up or carry thetool.Physically touching the switch with yourfinger when carrying the tool or connectingthe tool to the power supply switched oncan lead to accidents.

Remove adjusting tools/wrench(es)prior to switching on the power tool.A tool or wrench that is positioned inside arotating power tool part can cause injury.

Avoid abnormal working postures. Makesure you stand squarely and keep yourbalance at all times. This way, you will be able to have bettercontrol over the tool in unexpectedsituations.

Wear suitable clothes. Never wear loosefitting clothes or jewelry. Keep hair, clothes and gloves away from movingparts.Loose clothing, dangling jewelry and longhair can be caught by moving parts.

If dust extraction and dust collectiondevices can be mounted, ensure thatthese are connected and are properlyused. The use of a dust extraction system canreduce the danger posed by dust.

4. Using the treatment of electric tools Do not overload your tool. Only use

suitable electric tools to perform yourwork.Using the right electric tool allows you towork better and safer within the tool’squoted capacity range.

Do not use an electric tool whose switch

is defective. An electric tool that no longer can beswitched on or off is dangerous and mustbe repaired.

Pull the plug out of the socket and/orremove the battery before making anyadjustments to the tool, changingaccessories or put the tool down. This precaution eliminates the possibility ofinadvertently starting the tool.

When not in use, store electric tools outof the reach of children. Do not allowthose persons to use this tool who areunfamiliar with it or who have not readthese instructions.Electric tools are dangerous when they areused by inexperienced persons.

Take good care of your tool. Check thatmoving parts properly function and donot jam, that parts are not broken off ordamaged in any way and that the toolcan be used to its full capacity. Havedamaged parts repaired prior to usingthe tool. The cause of many accidents can be tracedback to poorly maintained electric tools.

Keep your blades sharp and clean.Properly maintained blades with sharpedges jam less frequently and are easier touse.

Make sure to use electric tools, accessories, attachments, etc. inaccordance with these instructions.Take the conditions in your work areaand the job in hand into account.Using electric tools for applications otherthan those intended can lead to dangeroussituations.

5. Usage and treatment of battery poweredelectric tools

Ensure that the tool is switched offbefore you insert the battery. Inserting abattery into an electric tool that is switchedon can cause accidents.

Only charge the batteries in chargersthat are recommended by themanufacturer. A charger that is designedfor a certain type of batteries may pose afire risk if it is used with other types of

batteries. Use only the correct batteries in the

electric tools. The use of other batteriesmay result in injuries and a fire risk.

Keep unused batteries away from paperclips, coins, keys, nails, screws andother metallic objects that could causea short circuit between the contacts. Ashort circuit between the battery contactsmay cause burns or a fire.

In case of incorrect use, fluid mayescape from the battery. Avoid contactwith it. If you touch it by mistake, rinsethe affected area with water. If you getthe fluid in your eyes, also seek medicaladvice. Leaking battery fluid can cause skinirritation or burns.

6. SERVICE Have your tool repaired only by

authorized specialists using originalreplacement parts. This will ensure that your tool remains safeto use.

Additional safety instructionsWe pay a great deal of attention to the design ofevery battery pack to ensure that we supply youwith batteries which feature maximum powerdensity, durability and safety. The battery cellshave a wide range of safety devices. Eachindividual cell is initially formatted and itselectrical characteristic curves are recorded. These data are then used exclusively to be ableto assemble the best possible battery packs.Despite all the safety precautions, cautionmust always be exercised when handlingbatteries. The following points must beobeyed at all times to ensure safe use.

Safe use can only be guaranteed ifundamaged cells are used. Incorrecthandling can cause cell damage.

Important: Analyses confirm that incorrect useand poor care are the main causes of thedamage caused by high performance batteries.

Information about the battery The battery pack supplied with your

cordless tool is not charged. The batterypack has to be charged before you use thetool for the first time.

For optimum battery performance avoid lowdischarge cycles. Charge the battery packfrequently.

Store the battery pack in a cool place, ideally at 15°C and charged to at least 40%.

Lithium-ion batteries are subject to a naturalageing process. The battery pack must bereplaced at the latest when its capacity fallsto just 80% of its capacity when new.Weakened cells in an aged battery pack areno longer capable of meeting the highpower requirements and therefore pose asafety risk.

Do not throw battery packs into an open fire. There is a risk of explosion!

Do not ignite the battery pack or expose it tofire.

Do not exhaustively discharge batteries.Exhaustive discharge will damage thebattery cells. The most common cause ofexhaustive discharge is lengthy storage ornon-use of partly discharged batteries. Stopworking as soon as the performance of thebattery falls noticeably or the electronicprotection system triggers. Place the batterypack in storage only after it has been fullycharged.

Protect batteries and the tool fromoverloads.Overloads will quickly result in overheatingand cell damage inside the battery housingwithout this overheating actually beingapparent externally.

Avoid damage and shocks.Replace batteries which have been droppedfrom a height of more than one meter orwhich have been exposed to violent shockswithout delay, even if the housing of thebattery pack appears to be undamaged. The battery cells inside the battery mayhave suffered serious damage. In thisrespect, please also read the wastedisposal information.

If the battery pack suffers overloading andoverheating, the integrated protective cut-

Do not use damaged battery chargers. Do not use the supplied battery charger to

charge other cordless tools. In heavy use the battery pack will become

warm. Allow the battery pack to cool toroom temperature before commencing withthe charging.

Do not over-charge batteries.Do not exceed the maximum chargingtimes. These charging times only apply todischarged batteries. Frequent insertion of acharged or partly charged battery pack willresult in over-charging and cell damage. Donot leave batteries in the charger for dayson end.

Never use or charge batteries if yoususpect that the last time they were

charged was more than 12 monthspreviously. There is a high probability thatthe battery pack has already suffereddangerous damage (exhaustive discharge).

Charging batteries at a temperature below10°C will cause chemical damage to the celland may cause a fire.

Do not use batteries which have heatedduring the charging process, as the batterycells may have suffered dangerousdamage.

Do not use batteries which have sufferedcurvature or deformation during thecharging process or which show other non-typical symptoms (gassing, hissing, cracking,…)

Never fully discharge the battery pack(recommended depth of discharge max.80%) A complete discharge of the batterypack will lead to premature ageing of thebattery cells.

 Never charge the batteries unsupervised.

Protection from environmental influences Wear suitable work clothes. Wear safety

goggles. Protect your cordless tool and the

battery charger from moisture and rain.Moisture and rain can cause dangerous celldamage.

Do not use the cordless tool or the batterycharger near vapors and inflammableliquids.
