Project Spotlight Broadway National Bank Broadway 5th and 6th floor renovation is the 4th project Masters has completed at the old Broadway Bank building on Loop 410. Over the past 3 years Masters has teamed up with Malitz Construction to remodel the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors of the same building. Shawn Shaw completed the second floor remodel and started the first floor. Since then, Miguel Veloz and his crew have completed the remainder of the work to date. We will complete the 5th and 6th floors by the end of the year and this will complete the scope of work contracted with Broadway Bank.

Broadway Bank has been a local San Antonio institution since 1941. It was founded by Colonel Charles

Cheever and his wife Elizabeth and became San Antonio’s first urban financial institution. The first location was a small storefront at 5044 Broadway closer to downtown. The bank has always been an integral part of the San Antonio community and has brought many firsts to the banking industry in the San Antonio market. Adjacent to the building where all the remodeling took place, Master partnered with Bartlett Cocke General Contractors in 2010 to complete a brand new multi-story building. Masters has had a great working relationship with the bank for the past several years and hopes to continue it in the future. Original Broadway Bank Building at 5044 Broadway:

EC&M News Q. What are the rules related to the installation of conductors under 50V with conductors from 120V, 208V, 240V, 277V, and 480V systems in the same raceway or enclosure?

A. Class 1 circuit conductors can be installed with associated power conductors [725.48(B)(1)] if all conductors have an insulation voltage rating not less than the maximum circuit voltage [300.3(C)(1)]. A Class 2 circuit that’s been reclassified as a Class 1 circuit [725.130(A), Exception No. 2] can be installed with associated power conductors [725.48(B)(1)] if all conductors have an insulation voltage rating not less than the maximum

circuit voltage [300.3(C)(1)] (Figure). Control, signal, and communications wiring must be separated from power and lighting circuits so the higher-voltage conductors don’t accidentally energize the control, signal, or communications wiring. Note 2: PV system conductors, both direct current and alternating current, are permitted to be installed in the same raceways, outlet and junction boxes, or similar fittings with each other, but they must be kept entirely independent of all other non-PV system wiring [690.31(B)].

Lockout/ Tagout For all Employees

Most machinery in never as dangerous as repairs. That’s when sudden, unexpected startups can maim and even kill the unwary. Lockout/tag out (LOTO) procedures are the best defense against these accidents.

Can you identify all employees who are authorized to lockout and tag out machinery and equipment in the department?

OSHA labeled “authorized” employees as those trained in specific procedures for locking out and tagging out machines and equipment and who aren’t likely to violate LOTO rules “affected” employees, those who operate the machines and equipment but are not authorized to service or repair it, and “other” employees, those whose duties bring hem near it, need regular and frequent LOTO training.

Affected Employees

Make sure workers:

1. Understanding all LOTO procedures so that they will not unintentionally restart machines or equipment. Unintentional restarts injure and kill thousands of workers every year.

2. Never remove locks or tags that they did not attach themselves. These removals put authorized workers in danger of injury or death.

3. Never try to restart equipment that is locked or tagged. Workers must always assume that machines with locks or tags are being serviced or repaired by authorized employees.

Other Employees

Make Sure Workers:

1. Are aware of LOTO procedures so that they don’t unintentionally restart machines or equipment that is locked or tagged out.

2. Avoid machines and equipment when they see that it is marked with a tag or a lock.

3. Never try to remove tags or locks some machines and equipment present special challenges for LOTO procedures. Some cannot be locked out without being dismantled. Some have multiple power sources that require special procedures to disconnect. If you have any of these, make special note of them
