WARNINGS AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSFailuretofollowtheinstructionsandcautionsthroughoutthismanualandwarninglabelsontheconveyor,mayresultininjurytopersonnelordamagetotheequipment.

ConveyXCorp.’sPoweredFlexConveyorismotor-poweredandthismotorcanbestoppedbyturningoffthemotor’selectricalpower.Aswithallpoweredmachinery,thedrive-relatedcomponentscanbedangeroussosafetyguardsandotheroptionaldeviceshavebeeninstalledtopreventaccidentalcontactwiththesepartsalongwithwarninglabelstoidentifypotentialhazards.

Specialattentionmustbepaidtothefollowingareasofthismanual:

ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDSConveyXCorp.’sequipmentisdesignedtobeinstalledinaclean,dryenvironment.Exposuretoextremehumidity,directsunlight,blowingdirtorraincanpermanentlydamagesomecomponentsandequipment.Concretecuringagentsarealsoknowntoattackanddegradetheurethaneconveyorcomponents.Besurethattheconcreteisproperlycuredatnewsitesbeforesettingtheconveyoronitandthatproperventilationisusedtopreventcuringagentfumesfromimpactingtheconveyor.Equipmentshouldbestoredundercovertoprotectitfromexposuretotheweatherandotheradverseconditionsfromthedockdoortothetruckentrance.Failuretocomplywiththeseguidelineswillvoidthewarrantyonanyfailedcomponentsthatresultfromtheseenvironmentalissues.

ANSI STANDARDS FOR CONVEYORS Itisessentialforsafeandefficientsystemoperationthatthesafetyinformationandguidelinespresentedhereareproperlyunderstoodandimplemented.TheAmericanNationalStandardInstitute(ANSI)bookletentitledSafetyStandardsforConveyorsandRelatedEquipment,formoreinformationcontacthttps://webstore.ansi.org.

Withanypieceofindustrialequipment,conditionsexistthatmightcauseinjurytoworkers.Becauseitisnotpossibletodescribeeachpotentiallyhazardoussituationthatmightdevelop,workersmustbealertatalltimesforunsafeconditions.Toavoidinjury,usemaximumpossiblecareandcommonsenseandadheretoallsafetystandards.

Takespecialcarewhilemaintainingandinspectingelectricalequipmentanddevices.Allpersonnelworkingonoraroundthesystemshouldbeawareof,andadheretoallCAUTION,DANGERandWARNINGsigns.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

■ Moveconveyoronlybygraspingthehandles locatedonthesidesorateachendof theconveyor.■ Whenexpandingorcompressingyourconveyor, keephands,clothingandotheritemsclear ofthesidebars.■ Donotexceedtheconveyorloadcapacity, asitmayresultinpossibleoperatorinjuryor conveyordamage.■ Avoidwearingexcessivelylooseclothingwhen workingwithmovingequipment.■ Keeplonghairpulleduptopreventitfrom becomingcaughtinmovingparts.

■ Brokenorwornpartsmustbereplaced immediately.■ PoweredFlexConveyorsmustonlybeservicedby properlytrainedandqualifiedtechnicians.■ Conveyor’spowercordmustbeconnectedtoa groundedreceptaclethatisprotectedbyan overcurrentdeviceratedatnomorethan30Amps, unlessotherwisespecified.■ Neverserviceaconveyorwiththepowerapplied. Alwaysdisconnectpowerbeforeservicing equipmentandusethecompany’smachine specificlockout/tagoutprocedures.■ Neveroperateconveyorwithanelectrical enclosureopenoranyguardsremoved.

INSPECTING THE EQUIPMENT

1) UnpackthePoweredFlexConveyorand inspectforanypossibledamagethatmay haveoccurredduringshipping.Payparticular attentiontothewiringtoensurethatnowires arepulledlooseordamaged.Ifyoufindany physicalorelectricaldamagetotheconveyor uponinspection,contactthefactoryBEFORE applyingpowertotheconveyor.2) Inspectallelectricalcablesandconnectorsto ensuretheydidnotloosenduringtransportation. Ifaconnectionorwireisloose,inspectfor damage.Ifnodamageisfound,reconnectand contactthefactoryasneeded.3) Checkendhandlesateachendoftheconveyor fordamagebyliftingtounlatchandthenre-latch intoasecureposition.Ifthereisanybindingor difficultymovingthehandlefromlatchtounlatch andre-latch,thehandlemaybedamaged, contactthefactory.4) InspectthesidebarsoftheConveyorfor damageduringshipping.Ifthesidebarsare damaged,theConveyorwillnotmoveorrun properlyandneedstoberepairedpriorto operation.Contactthefactoryforpartsand furtherinstruction.5) Inspecttherollerstoensuretherollerswerenot damagedduringshipping.Iftherollersarebent, theconveyorwillnotmoveproductsoroperate properlyresultinginpoorperformance.The Conveyorrollerswillneedtobereplaced. Contactthefactoryforpartsandfurther instruction.6) Inspecteachlegtoensurethattheheight adjustmentpinsaresecurelyinplace.Missing pinswillpreventtheConveyorfrommoving properlyandwillresultindamagetothe Conveyor.Missingpinsshouldbelocatedand replacedpriortomovementandinstallation.

7) Inspectthecastersandlegstoensurenodamage occurredduringshipping.Checkallweldsand attachmentstotheConveyor.Ifthecastersare damaged,thentheConveyorwillnotmove properly,whichwillresultindamagetothe Conveyor.TheConveyorwillneedtoberepaired. Contactthefactoryforpartsandfurtherinstruction.8) Inspecttheconveyortoensureallyellowhandles aresecuredintheproperlocation.TheConveyor willhaveapairofyellowhandles,oneoneach sideoftheConveyorforeachzone,toassistwith safepositioningoftheConveyor.Theexact numberofhandleswillvarydependingonthe zonequantityandlengthoftheConveyor.

Follow all proper safety precautions and plant installation procedures.

If you find any damage to the conveyor upon inspection or any loose wires, contact the factory BEFORE applying power to the conveyor.

INSTALLATION QUICK START: ONE POWERED FLEX CONVEYOR1) AllSTOPpush-buttonsshouldbedepressed(there

willbeoneSTART/STOPswitchateachendoftheconveyor).

2) MakesureFWD/REVswitchissettoFWD.

3) Rolltheconveyorintopositioninaccordance withthewarnings.Movetheconveyorbygraspingthehandleslocatedonthesidesorateachendoftheconveyor.Ifapplicable,usetheconnecthookstoattachthePoweredFlexConveyortoarigidorotherflexibleconveyor.

4) Ensuretheheightoftheconveyorisadjustedtoheightoftheinfeedanddischargeconveyorlines,aswellasothermaterial-handlingequipment,inordertopreventpackagesandproductsfromdroppingorbindingonthePoweredFlexConveyorduringmovement.

5) Ensuretheconveyorrollersarenotmakingcontactwithanyinfeedconveyingequipmentand/ordischargeconveyingequipmentorothermaterial-handlingequipment.

Conveyor must be installed in accordance with all local, city, state and national code.

6) EachPoweredFlexConveyorrequiresaGrounded110VAC/30AMPL5-30Rreceptaclelocatedcloseenoughtotheconveyorsoastonotcauseanystrainonthepowercable.PlugtheunmarkedpowercordwiththeL5-30Pmaleconnectorintoa110VAC/30AMPGroundedL5-30Rfemalereceptacle.For connecting more than 1 Powered Flex Conveyor, see CONNECTING POWERED FLEX CONVEYORS.

7) Tostarttheconveyor,locatethebaseendwiththepowersupplyenclosureandturnthedisconnectswitchon.LocateoneoftheON/OFFswitchesfortheconveyorandpressthegreenONbuttonwhenreadytostarttheconveyor.

8) Ifnecessary,thespeedoftheconveyorcanbeadjustedviathepotentiometerontheDCVariableSpeedDrivelocatedatthebaseendoftheconveyor.

9) Theconveyorisnowreadyforitsintendeduseandpackagescannowbeplacedontheconveyor.

Rollers will begin to move as soon as the ON button is pressed. If step 2 was not followed, the rollers will turn on as soon as the disconnect is turned to ON

CONNECTING POWERED FLEX CONVEYORS: TWO OR THREE POWERED FLEX CONVEYORSUpto(3)PoweredFlexConveyorscanbeconnectedtogethertoextendthedistancecoveredfromtheloadingdocktootherinprocessconveyorsand/orequipment.

1) AllSTOPpush-buttonsshouldbedepressed.There isoneSTART/STOPswitchateachendofthe conveyor.

2) MakesureFWD/REVswitchissettoFWD.

3) Rolltheconveyor(s)intopositioninaccordance withthewarnings.Movetheconveyorbygrasping thehandleslocatedonthesidesorateachendofthe conveyor.Ifapplicable,usetheconnecthooksto attachthePoweredFlexConveyortoarigidorother flexibleconveyor.

4) Ensuretheheightoftheconveyorisadjustedtotheheightoftheinfeedanddischargelines,aswellasothermaterial-handlingequipment,topreventpackagesandproductsfromdroppingorbindingonthePoweredFlexConveyorduringmovement.

5) Ensuretheconveyorrollersarenotmakingcontactwithanyinfeedconveyingequipmentand/ordischargeconveyingequipmentorothermaterial-handlingequipment.

6) EachPoweredFlexConveyorrequiresagrounded110VAC/30AMPL5-30Rreceptaclelocatedcloseenoughtotheconveyorsoastonotcauseanystrainonthepowercable.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Priortooperatingtheconveyorbesuretofollowallinspecting,installing,andconnectinginstructions.

Conveyor must be installed in accordance with all local, city, state and national code.Make certain that all uninvolved personnel are clear of the working area.

Do not exceed the rated capacity of the conveyor 50 lbs (22.5 kg) per linear foot. Overloading the conveyor could cause damage to the conveyor or components and could void the equipment warranty.

Moving the conveyorWhenmaneuveringthePoweredFlexConveyorintoposition,alwaysusetheyellowhandlesattachedtothelegsoftheconveyorortheendhandles.Whenusingtheendhandles,ensurethatthehandleisfullyseatedintopositionpriortoapplyingforce.Applyhorizontalorslightlydownwardforcetomovetheconveyor.Donotuseanupwardforce.

Oncetheconveyorhasbeenextendedandpositionedasdesired,lockthecasterbrakestomaintainthatposition.Asloadingprogresses,releasethebrakestorepositiontheconveyorasneeded.

Keep all persons and objects away from the scissor sidebars to avoid pinch points.

Expanding the conveyorExpandthePoweredFlexConveyorusingtheyellowhandlesattachedtothelegsoftheconveyorortheendhandles.Whenusingtheendhandles,ensurethatthehandleisfullyseatedintopositionpriortoapplyingforce.Applyhorizontalorslightlydownwardforcetomovetheconveyor.Donotuseanupwardforce.

Oncetheconveyorhasbeenexpandedandpositionedasdesired,lockthecasterbrakestomaintainthatposition.Asloadingprogresses,releasethebrakestorepositiontheconveyorasneeded.

Do not over stretch the conveyor beyond the natural limit. Over stretching can result in loosening or disconnection of power or communication cables. If the conveyor has been over stretched and caused loose cable connections, DO NOT operate the conveyor. Contact maintenance for repair.

Collapsing the conveyorCollapsethePoweredFlexConveyorusingtheyellowhandlesattachedtothelegsoftheconveyorortheendhandles.Whenusingtheendhandles,ensurethatthehandleisfullyseatedintopositionpriortoapplyingforce.Applyhorizontalorslightlydownwardforcetomovetheconveyor.Donotuseanupwardforce.

Whencollapsingtheconveyor,allowtheconveyortobeinarelaxedstate.Avoidtightlycompressingtheconveyorsuchthattherollerscomeintocontactwitheachother.

Bending the conveyorBendthePoweredFlexConveyorusingtheyellowhandlesattachedtothelegsoftheconveyorortheendhandles.Whenusingtheendhandles,ensurethatthehandleisfullyseatedintopositionpriortoapplyingforce.Applyhorizontalorslightlydownwardforcetomovetheconveyor.Donotuseanupwardforce.

Whenflexingtheconveyorintocurvedformations,allowtheconveyortobendnaturally.Donotforcetheconveyorintocurvesthatplacestressonthesidebarsorcausetherollerstotouchattheinsideofthecurve.

Impact loading or dropping packages is not recommended for the Powered Flex Conveyor and can cause damage to the conveyor and/or its components that could void the equipment warranty.
