2020 Xcel Energy-Colorado Giving Report
PRESIDENT’S LETTER
Throughout 2020, Colorado communities have shown true resiliency. In addition to the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, our country and state have experienced overwhelming sadness and tragedy as a result of social injustice and natural disasters. It is clear our communities need the support of companies like Xcel Energy more than ever, and I am proud we have been able to power people’s homes and businesses, as well as their communities.
Even though this year has been full of challenges and setbacks, I am inspired by the agility, innovation and passion Xcel Energy and its workforce have demonstrated. We have deepened our partnerships with community and nonprofit organizations and strengthened our relationships with our customers. On top of our ongoing philanthropic commitments to our communities, Xcel Energy and the Xcel Energy Foundation gave an additional $1.5 million to support COVID-19 relief, wildfire relief, and social justice and equity. And we could not have done this without the generosity of our employees and retirees.
The pandemic has had a profound impact on everyone, and I want to offer a sincere thank you to everyone who has given back to Colorado communities this year, whether it was through your time, talent or treasure. I would also like to thank our governments and local emergency operations centers for their support and guidance as we continue to deliver safe and reliable service to our customers. And finally, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Xcel Energy’s essential workers who have helped keep the lights on and natural gas flowing for our customers.
I’d like to thank our employees for continuing to live our values and showing our communities that we are safe, trustworthy, committed and connected. And remember, we are in this together and will get through it together.

That means providing reliable, affordable and safe energy and supporting our communities when they need us most. To help combat the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, this year Xcel Energy and the Xcel Energy Foundation invested $2.3 million across the eight states in which we operate to aid in immediate relief and long-term recovery needs due to COVID-19. In Colorado, the company and Foundation contributed more than $1.2 million to COVID-19 relief in 34 cities and counties including a $750,000 pledge to the Colorado Restaurant Association’s Winter Outdoor Grant Program, our single largest gift in Xcel Energy- Colorado history.

COLORADO RESTAURANT RELIEFWith the restaurant industry hard hit by the pandemic, Xcel Energy made an initial gift to kickstart the Colorado Restaurant Association’s Winter Outdoor Grant program. Grant funds supported design fees, tents, heater, lighting, furniture and equipment, allowing eligible restaurants to expand their outdoor spaces to safely accommodate patrons. The Xcel Energy Foundation committed an initial $500,000 and invited others to join our efforts by offering matching donations of $50,000, up to an additional $250,000, for every $500,000 raised. *As of January 2021, more than 130 recipients in 30 counties received funding.
*At the time of this report’s publication, the program’s second round of funding was in progress.
