Insert tab You can insert pictures, clip art, screenshots, shapes, SmartArt, charts, text boxes, and WordArt

Screenshot PowerPoint 2010 has a new screen clipping utility will insert a picture of any program that is not minimized to the taskbar.

Insert > Screenshot > Screen Clipping (or choose an available window)

Shapes You can draw shapes in your PowerPoint presentation from the Home tab or the Insert tab.

Draw a Rectangle

1. Select the Rectangle tool from the list of possible shapes. 2. Position the cursor (it is now a cross-hair) where you want one

corner to be. 3. Click and drag on the slide to create the box. 4. Hold down the Shift key while dragging to create a perfect square. 5. If you select the rectangle tool and click once on the slide,

you will create a square of a default size. 6. You can click on a shape and type to enter text in it. 7. Use these same steps to create some additional shapes: oval, star,

triangle, block arrow. 8. Use the Shape Fill and Shape Outline tools to change your shapes’

appearance.

9. There are interesting Textures available in the Shape Fill dialog.

Create a Line or Arrow

1. Select the Line or Arrow tool. 2. Click on the slide where you want one end to be. 3. Drag and release the mouse where you want the other end to be. For steps 4 through 7, make sure the line is selected first (it has white boxes): 4. Use the Line Style tool to create a thicker (or thinner) line. 5. Use the Dash Style tool to create a dotted or dashed line. 6. Use the Line Color tool to change the line color 7. Use the Arrow Style tool to add or change arrowheads for the line.

Create a Text Box 1. Click on the Insert tab 2. Click on the Text Box button 3. Click on the location where you want to insert the text box. 4. An empty text box appears. 5. Type the information that you want. 6. Click once outside of the box when you are finished typing. 7. You can format, resize, rotate, and/or move the text box object.

Create a Callout 1. Click on the Home or Insert tab. 2. Click on the Shapes button 3. Select a Callout from the list of choices. 4. Click and drag on the slide to draw the callout balloon. 5. Type the text that should appear in the balloon. Make sure you have the callout selected before attempting the next steps 6. Reshape or resize the balloon by dragging and dropping the white

selection boxes or the frame. 7. Change the background color by clicking on the Shape Fill tool. 8. Change the font of the text using the mini-toolbar or Home tab. 9. Change the direction of the "voice" by clicking on the yellow diamond and

dragging and dropping it to a new location.

Delete a Shape 1. Click once on the object. It becomes surrounded by a frame of selection boxes and

diagonal lines. 2. Click once on the diagonal lines of the frame. The diagonal lines surrounding the text box

change to dots. 3. Press the Delete key on the keyboard.

Format a Shape Select a shape that you have drawn on a slide.

You can stretch or shrink a side of the shape by dragging on the round dots on the corners or the square boxes on the sides of the shape.

The green dot allows you to rotate the shape.

When a shape is selected, you will see an additional Drawing Tools Format tab on your ribbon.

Edit Points 1. First click on the shape to select it. 2. Under the Format tab, click on Edit Shape 3. Select Convert to Freeform to be able to Edit Points. 4. Drag the little black boxes to change the shape. 5. You can also click anywhere along the edge and drag.

You will need more commands – either add them to your QuickAccess toolbar or to a custom ribbon. File > Options > Customize Ribbon > New Tab > Rename the tab and the new group

Add these commands to your new ribbon tab from All Commands: Shape Combine, Shape Intersect, Shape Subtract, Shape Union (or add Combine Shape to your QuickAccess toolbar).

Select 2 shapes and click on one of these commands to create new shapes.

Arrange Images and Shapes • Bring Forward or Send Backward– when changing the order of layers of objects.

• Rotate – reverse image or change orientation of object.

• Select Multiple Objects – select several shapes by shift clicking or draw a marquee box

around the shapes/images.

• Align – force the items to line up with each other (left, center, right, top, middle, bottom).

• Group – combine the items into one object that can be

moved or reshaped. Complete all formatting and ordering before grouping.

You have access to Size, Crop, Rotate, and Format commands when you right click on an image

SmartArt 1. Click on a slide where you wish to insert the SmartArt Graphic. 2. Click on the Insert tab. 3. Click on the SmartArt button.

4. Select a Category: List, Process, Cycle, Hierarchy, Relationship, Matrix, Pyramid 5. Select a particular graphic from the category.

6. After you select one, enter text in the boxes where indicated.

Picture Layout SmartArt graphics can be used as a way to layout inserted images and adjacent text.

1. Insert multiple images on a slide. 2. Select the images with marquee select or shift clicking each one.

3. Picture Tools Format > Picture Layout option

during selection

4. Enter text in the small boxes corresponding to each image or click on the triangle tab on the side and type in the bulleted list that appears near the graphic.

Picture Tools PowerPoint 2010 offers enhanced image editing tools.

Remove Background Click on image > Picture Tools Format > Remove Background

Artistic Effects Make inserted images look like sketches, drawings, paintings, etc. You can apply only one artistic effect to an image; however you can also apply color effects and corrections.

Effects include chalk sketch, cutout, glow edges, marker, pencil sketch, paint brush…

You can tweak the image after applying an effect: Picture Tools Format > Artistic Effects > Artistic Effects Options and modify the amount of transparency, etc.

You can get rid of the artistic effect by returning to the command and selecting None in the upper left corner.

Corrections Click on the image > Picture Tools Format > Corrections > sharpen or soften the image and/or modify the brightness and contrast.

Choose Picture Corrections Options for more control.

Crop Tool The Crop tool is on the Picture Tools Format ribbon.

You drag and drop the dark lines on the edges or corners.

You will see a dark shadow over the outer edges that you are cropping off.

The cropping tool doesn’t stay active as you switch from image to image. You must select it again for each image.

1. Draw a rectangle with gradient fill, radial, center direction; color set to white:

Tip: fill with 10-15% gray first, then select gradient, then change type to radial

2. Set the line color (border) a little darker than gray fill: 25% gray, 1.5 points

3. Create the envelope flap. I used “Flowchart Delay” shape in my example and rotated it.

4. Fill it with a linear gradient fill with the darkest part at the top, angle=180°, stop=~52% 5. Copy the envelope flap and fill it with solid gray 25% 6. Create a triangle with no fill and solid gray outline 25% 7. Assemble the pieces into your envelope.You can add a drop shadow to the rectangle. 8. Under the Format tab, choose Group.

9. Create a blue solid arrow using an autoshape. Fill it with medium blue, no outline color

10. Change it to a dark gradient fill, linear, light blue as second color, light on top (angle=90°) 11. Convert to a free form object and edit points. 12. Add a couple of small shapes on top of the arrow, white, with some transparency.
