History of Monument

Roughly two years after Lincoln’s death, Congress appointed the Lincoln Monument Association to build a memorial dedicated to Abraham Lincoln.

On May 30, 1922, former President and Chief Justice William Howard Taft and Robert Lincoln only child to be still alive at the time.
