2. Question number 3: your mothers highest degree of education O Results O 3% no studies at all O 29% elementary O 43% secondary O 9% university (4 years degree) O 8% didnt know what to answer 3. Conclusions O These results imply that in our country gradually more and more women study although the percentage of women who goes to the university and studies a career is still low if we compare it with other countries such as Hungary or Iceland. 4. Question number 4: your fathers highest degree of education O Results O 2% no studies at all O The others percentages are more or less the same than womens ones. O Conclusions O Like in previous question, the number of men going to the University in Spain two decades ago is lower than in Iceland, Greece, Norway or Hungary. 5. Question number 5: the person who should go on maternity leave O Results O 90% both, but mostly the mother. O Conclusions O The results are nearly the same in the majority of the countries. O In Spain, traditionally the woman has been the person in charge of the children. O Spanish Goverment has recently raised a new law allowing the men to spend 15 days with the new born baby. 6. Question number 6: women should not work; they should stay at home and take care of their families O Results O 87% disagree. O Conclusion O The majority of the countries agree with this statement: both parents should share the task. 7. Question number 7: men should share the housework with their wives O Results O 86% agree with it, nobody disagree. O Conclusions O When we compare the option mostly agree with other countries, like Cyprus for example, we found that only 11% of us made that choice versus 38% of the Cypriot students. 8. Question number 8: when a woman gets married, she should take her husbands last name O Results O 78% of us disagree, in oposition to other countries such as Poland (49%) or France (47%) who agree with this statement. O Conclusion O Nowadays, in Spain, law doesnt force women to take her husbands last name. 9. Question number 9: gay couples should have the same rights to adopting children as other couples O Results O 70% agree, right after Iceland (84%) and followed by other countries as Norway (64%) O Conclusion O Thanks to the previous Goverment, nowadays gays & lesbians can get married and adopt children in Spain. 10. Question number 10: in time of economic crisis, men should have priority over women to get a job O Results O 85% disagree vs 3% that agree with it. O Conclusion O Nowadays, we can find in Spain too many families with both parents unemployed, so theres no reason to put one over the other in order to get a job. 11. Question number 11: do you agree that certain jobs can only be done by men/women? O Result O 51% of us disagree followed by other countries such as Hungary (44%) or Greece (40%) O Conclusion O We are used to seeing that jobs which have been traditionally proper of men (like van or bus drivers) are nowadays done by women as well. 12. Question number 12: there are differences in salary due to gender discrimination O Result O 43 % agree vs 35% that disagree with it. O Conclusion O We still find cases in Spain of private companies wich fire women when they discover theyre pregnant, or cases in wich women earn less money than men in the same job just because of their gender. 13. Question number 13: women are more suitable for professions which require taking care of others O Results O The percentage is the same, 26%, for the students who agree & disagree with this statement. O Conclusion O In Spain, women traditionally have been in charge of children and old people at home, while the husband has been the person who has earnt the salary. 14. Question number 14: an opportunity to have a career can be equally significant for women as for men? O Results O 81 % of us agree with this statement, followed by students from other countries such as France & Norway (80%), Iceland (76%), Greece (75%), or Poland (73%). 15. Question number 15: is it possible to successfully combine the role of mother and a career? O Results O 78% agree vs 3% that disagree with it. O Conclusions O This coincides with the answer the majority of us gave when we were asked about the person who should take care of the children and we answered that both of them (87%) 16. Question number 16: teachers expect different behaviour and attitudes from male and female students O Results O 72% disagree followed by students from other countries such as Poland (53%). O Conclusion O In our public primary and secondary schools, our teachers teach us in certain values related to gender equality; thats why the same values and attitudes are expected from all the students. 17. Question number 17: if one gender is subject to discrimination from the opposite one at your school-what gender? O Results O 57% none, 7% female, 18% both O Conclusions O According to our experience as students, the discrimination usually happens between persons belonging to the same gender. 18. Question number 18: women and men should have equal opportunities to the same level of education O Results O 93% of us agree with this one, like the majority of the countries. 19. Question number 19: who do you think can lead a country the best? O Results O 90% of us think that it does not depend of the gender, like the majority of the countries. O Conclusion O In Spain we have women who are ministers, though nowadays parity hasnt been reached yet. 20. Question number 20: men and women are treated equally in society O Results O 36% agree versus 27% who disagree with that statement. 21. Question number 21: men and women have equal opportunities to participate in social and cultural activities O Results O 55% of us agree, and 13% mostly disagree with this statement. 22. Question number 22: I feel superior to the opposite gender O Results O 83% of us disagree with this statement, followed by others students from countries such as Iceland (55%), Hungary (51%) or Norway (48%) 23. Question number 23: gay people face prejudice in my country O Results O 39% of us agree, following other countries such as Greece (74%), France (65%), Poland (59%) or Turkey (40%) 24. Question number 24: gay couples should have the same rights to marriage as other couples O Results O 91% of us agree, followed closely by Iceland (84%) and Norway (78%); however, other countries such as Turkey (37%), Greece (29%) and Cyprus (22%) have even lower percentages. 25. Question number 25: gay people are more likely to be subject to hate crime or violence O Results O 40% agree with this statement O Conclusion O This reinforces our opinion that gay people still have to face prejudice in our society, though we consider that unfair. 26. Question number 26: which of these groups are most likely to be subject to violence? O Results O 37% adult women O 27% teenage women O 18% adult men O 16% teenage men O Conclusion O In Spain, we consider that women are more vulnerable to suffer violence than men, due to the problem we have with violence against women.
