• Explain your community’s interest in the Tennessee RiverLine and what motivated you to apply to be a 2019 Pilot Community -
652 came along at the right time
We were in the process of converting from industrial only focus to recreation and industry
The right time + 34 miles of Tennessee River in Roane County and the existing river-centric culture
Average age 46 + aging demographic (next slide) + environmental awareness + recovery from spill + outdoor healthy activities + lake front property owners – identify and empower this group
• Share your 652 to YOU experience in terms of your key takeaways relative to community leadership or resident participation, feedback you may have received, and whether or not the program met your expectations and goals for your involvement –
structure, process resulted in identification and engagement of a different demographic.
60 citizens and 18 leaders
The process allowed us to initiate relationships with related local businesses**
Again at the right time – we had just started P&R and Trails Master Planning process
** government can start this, but it will require businesses to sustain momentum and evolve into an economic driver
Pilot Community Report – 652 and you
• Share any RiverLine-related activity or initiatives you have undertaken or have planned, ideas you have pursued, etc., as a result of your 652 to YOU experience. What outcomes have been achieved or challenges have you encountered in the process?
Confidence after 652 and you process
And confidence in the results and engagement from leadership and public -
lets have an event!
Help celebrate Roane’s selection as a Pilot Community for the
by joining us on October XX at Riley Creek Campground and paddling to 58 Landing.
During the trip you will experience the beauty of the river in the fall and a little
something special about each community along the 652 miles of the Tennessee.
Refreshments, souvenirs, restroom facilities and regional food will be ready for you
along the journey ….representing the entire length of our beautiful river.
We gather at Riley creek and launch at 9AM. Provisions to return you and you boat
from 58 Landing back to Riley will be available, avoiding that hassle.
And it is all free…………as free as the bald eagles on the bluffs, as free as the
ospreys diving for their dinner, as free as you are to enjoy the beauty of Roane and
of the Riverline.
Ambitious!!
Naïve !!
