9 ATTITUDES THAT JESUS WANTS
CHRISTIANS TO HAVE.
Matthew 5:1-12
ATTITUDE 1 –WE NEED AN ATTITUDE OF HUMILITY.
Matthew 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Luke 18:10-1410 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Mark 10:1515 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

ATTITUDE 2 –WE NEED AN ATTITUDE OF
REPENTANCE.
Matthew 5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Psalm 51:1-4Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight:
Psalm 51:8-108 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
ATTITUDE 3 –WE NEED AN ATTITUDE OF
TEACHABILITY.
Matthew 5:5 “Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.”
A.W. Tozer once wrote, The meek man is not a human mouse afflicted with a sense of his own inferiority.
Rather he may be in his moral life as bold as a lion and as strong as Samson; but he has stopped being fooled about himself. He has accepted God's estimate of his own life. He knows he is as weak and helpless as God declared
him to be, but paradoxically, he knows at the same time that he is in the sight of God of more importance than
angels. In himself, nothing; in God, everything. That is his motto."
Matthew 11:29 “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart.”
2 Timothy 2:24-26 24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
ATTITUDE 4 –WE NEED AN ATTITUDE OF
RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.”
ATTITUDE 5 –WE NEED AN ATTITUDE OF MERCY.
Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.Matthew 6:12 “And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.”
Proverbs 3:3-43 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.We need to have an attitude of forgiveness and mercy.
Matthew 6:14-1514 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 18:21-3521 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.
29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:
33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
